Female teacher who slept with pupil, 12, and gave birth to his baby is jailed

A teacher has been jailed for 17-and-a-half years after having a sexual relationship with a pupil – and having their baby.

Details were shared in a district court in Taoyuan, Taiwan last week about how the teacher, known only as Xu, had a four-month relationship with the male pupil. The pupil, aged under 14, was kept anonymous, as was the school the teacher and pupil were at.

The affair happened when the boy was in the fifth and sixth years of primary school (around 11 and 12), ending in February 2020. According to The Straits Times, Xu would message the boy on a messaging app, and tell him which classroom to go to – she would then demand he undress before having sex.

The door was covered with a poster while the pair had “unprotected sex”. He told prosecutors: “I felt it was not very normal to do this with my teacher, but it felt good, so I still wanted to have sex with her.”

The relationship was uncovered by the boy's father, who then made a police report. Bizarrely, Xu claimed that the youngster forced her into the relationship, and that he pushed her “to the ground”, causing her to lose consciousness”.

She added: “I didn’t know what happened at the time, but felt paralysed. When I woke up, my lower body was in pain and bleeding, and I realised what he had done to me.” She claimed that this was the one and only time it happened, and that this was when she got pregnant.

The judge dismissed this outright, and found her guilty of nine counts of sexual intercourse that involved obscene sexual acts with an individual aged below 14. The ruling said: “(Xu) had made use of her student for her desires and forcibly engaged him in obscene sexual activities by taking advantage of his immature understanding of romantic and sexual relationships.”

A DNA test during the hearing proved that the boy was the father of the baby, although the fate of the baby has not been made public. Xu can appeal, but only has until November 29 to do so.
