Kamala’s latest ‘word salad’ gaffe sees VP tell bemused crowd: ‘Community banks are in the community’

Vice-president Kamala Harris has been mocked for another ‘word salad’ – in which she pads out her speeches by repetitively overexplaining simple concepts.

While addressing the press at Sycamore & Oak retail village in DC on Tuesday she emphasized to reporters that ‘community banks are in the community’ and that investing in them is therefore good for the community.

‘And so for years we have worked to expand investment in community banks because, you see, community banks specialize in providing loans and financial assistance to small business owners, in particular those in overlooked and underserved communities,’ the vice president said. 

‘And as the name suggests, community banks are in the community,’ she added.

The term ‘word salad’ originated in psychiatry and describes an unintelligible cocktail of words that make no sense together.

The term has recently become associated with Harris, whose style of speech often results in tautological phrases with little meaning.

In response, the deputy spokesman for Speaker Kevin McCarthy asked: ‘But do they also offer services as it relates to banking?’

‘Let’s see if she can figure this one out! Grocery stores sell GROCERIES,’ conservative radio personality Ken Miles wrote, and included a thinking emoji. 

‘She actually said this,’ conservative communications specialist Steve Guest tweeted. 

In September she also discussed community at some length, also in the context of community banks. 

‘We invested an additional $12billion into community banks, because we know community banks are in the community, and understand the needs and desires of that community as well as the talent and capacity of community,’ she said. 

Harris has been mocked for her strange choice of words before. In January, she was mocked for a speech about Venn diagrams and school buses

Last month, Harris was criticized for explaining the meaning of the word ‘culture’.

Her comments came during the 2023 Essence Festival of Culture at the Caesars Superdome.

‘Culture is – it is a reflection of our moment and our time. Right?’ the Democrat said, while engaging in several of her trademark pauses.

She continued: ‘And present culture is the way we express how we’re feeling about the moment, and we should always find times to express how we feel about the moment.

‘That is a reflection of joy. Because, you know,’ she added, before an audible pause and eventually breaking into laughter, ‘it comes in the morning.’

She added, ‘We have to find ways to also express the way we feel about the moment in terms of just having language and a connection to how people are experiencing life. And I think about it in that way, too.’

Collectively, her posts have garnered tens of thousands of views, and hundreds of likes.

The swift response this week came after Harris gave another speech about the importance of ‘the moment’ at a pro-abortion rally in Washington earlier this year.

‘So I think it’s very important, as you have heard from so many incredible leaders for us at every moment in time and certainly this one, to see the moment in time in which we exist and are present, and to be able to contextualize it, to understand where we exist in the history and in the moment as it relates not only to the past but the future,’ she said in February.
