Israel-Hamas ceasefire ends as ‘fighting resumes’

Osama Hamdan, the chief Hamas representative in Lebanon, said that “a war of liberation is coming” to Israel.

The chilling threat, revealed on Lebanese TV in a November 29 interview, has raised fears about the terror group’s next plans.

Hamdan, who also serves in the Hamas politburo, said the next plot will “not be another October 7” – signalling that Hamas is planning something even worse.

During the interview, he said that Hamas has no regrets over the October 7 massacre in Israel, when the terror group breached the Gaza border fence and killed around 1,200 people.

Remorselessly, Hamdan said that Hamas has “no regret for shattering an entire division of the occupation army”.

The Lebanese interviewer followed up: “You said that if the Israelis would make new arrests, after all the prisoners are released from Israeli prisons, you would carry out another operation. So can you promise another October 7?”

The Hamas chief promised “that a war of liberation is coming, not just another October 7”.

He later added that this plan was “not far off”.

The interview, translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute, comes as Israel carries out some of the heaviest bombing of the war after a temporary ceasefire ended on Friday.

The Hamas-run health ministry says the number of people killed in Gaza has now exceeded 15,200.

Israel believes some Hamas leaders have relocated to the south of Gaza, where many civilians are sheltering after fleeing the north.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it had hit more than 400 Hamas “terror targets” on the first day of the renewed operation.

The Hamas-run health ministry says at least 193 people have been killed since the ceasefire ended.

On Saturday, Israel announced it was pulling its negotiators from hostage talks in Qatar.

The negotiators, from the Mossad intelligence service, left Qatar, which has been acting as a mediator in the crisis.

Saleh al-Arouri, deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau, told Al Jazeera on Saturday that “there are no negotiations now”.

He said that there would be no more prisoners exchanged with Israel until the war is over.
