‘Ghost girl’ who drowned in mining disaster 200 years ago ‘floats near memorial’

A ghost has apparently been captured after spending 200 years floating around her own memorial.

The unnamed ghost is allegedly one of 26 children who died when the Huskar Pit mine shaft near Silkstone, South Yorkshire was flooded in 1838.

When Linzi and Lee Street went to the popular ghost hunting spot, they started a live-stream of their exploration of the area.

And when they got home, they watched it back and realised that they actually managed to spot one of the dead children on camera.

Chilling footage of the memorial shows a still white apparition in front of a tree trunk before Lee, 37, walks away without noticing it.

Linzi, 54, claims the figure is a young girl wearing a white dress and she's “100%” certain it's a spirit, despite not seeing it at the time.

It's believed the dead children were recovered from the accident site, washed and then clothed in white and Linzi says that's why the “spirit” is wearing a white dress.

The full-time ghost hunter said the “heartbreaking” footage is so amazing that she'd question if it was fake had it not been filmed on their live stream.

“It looks like a little girl standing there – I've captured a real-life spirit here,” she said.

“She looks like she's got a little white dress and I can see a little face, mouth and two eyes.

“It looks like she's elevated off the floor and she's got bare feet.

“It's really interesting because I think it's up near the day hole where the children sadly drowned.”

Linzi says the pair picked up “interesting” electromagnetic field readings on their ghost-hunting device when they asked questions to tempt spirits in the area to communicate.

The Huskar Pit memorial, which includes the statue of a child miner crawling from a hole, was commissioned by local residents in 1988 to mark the 160th anniversary of the disaster.

The 54-year-old says she always feels emotional when visiting the pit, which is just 10 minutes' drive from their home.

The post containing a screenshot of their find has been liked almost 350 times with users baffled by the spooky outline.

One commented: “It looks like a little girl.”

A second said: “Fantastic catch, well done! I can see her clearly with a white dress.”

A third agreed and added: “Wow that's an amazing capture.”
