Europe braced for -4C freeze as 1,200 mile polar blast hits

Europe is braced for an icy spell as sub-zero temperatures spread across the continent. Heavy snowfall has been forecast to blanket Europe from the UK to Germany. Berlin will have a low of -4.5C on Tuesday and Wednesday, while Helsinki will have a low of -8°C on Monday.

Today (Friday, December 1), weather warnings have been issued for parts of Germany, with the national meteorological agency predicting up to 20 centimetres of snow as part of a whopping 1,200-mile wall of ice and snow stretching from Spain to Germany.

Maxar Technologies Inc is forecasting that “a cold pattern remains the favored outcome” over the next two weeks for most of Europe.

Meanwhile, temperatures in many parts of Spain are also expected to fall below zero.

Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts that thermometers will drop significantly.

Minimum temperatures of -2 degrees Celsius are expected in cities such as Burgos, Palencia, Soria, and Teruel.

This cold spell will be accompanied by heavy rains across the Pyrenees, Andalusia, and the Canary Islands. The front will weaken as it approaches the Mediterranean according to Aemet.
