Brit woman savaged to death by two Rottweilers as she ‘tried to stroke them’

A woman was killed by a pair of Rottweilers she tried to stroke, after the violent dogs savaged her arms and legs.

Marie Stevens, 40 was found dead at her home in Brighton-le-Sands, Merseyside, on September 3, just over two weeks after she was attacked in Netherton.

The Liverpool ECHO reported that the dogs set upon Ms Stevens when she "tried to stroke" them while they were on a lead.

The dog owners, a man and a woman, tried to stop the attack as the former took the dogs away from the scene, while the woman stayed with the victim until police arrived.

Marie was given first aid until an ambulance arrived and took her to hospital where she was treated and later discharged.

A 41-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog in a public place.

A post mortem determined the primary cause of death was a pulmonary embolism, a sudden blockage in your pulmonary arteries, the blood vessels that send blood to your lungs.

Today, almost three weeks on from the attack, Merseyside Police confirmed Ms Stevens had been found dead at home.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Just after 9.10am on Sunday 3 September, police were called by the North West Ambulance Service to Ms Stevens’ home on Holden Road, in Brighton-le-Sands to a report she had collapsed and sadly died at home."

It comes after a pensioner was left seriously injured after being attacked by two dogs in the street – which were later shot dead by armed police, in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, last month.

It is said the dogs, thought to be Rottweilers, had attacked the man in his 70s.
