Denver Auditor Timothy O’Brien is on track to hold on to his seat during Tuesday’s municipal election, fending off a challenge from political newcomer Erik Clarke, early results show.
The race’s results, published at 7 p.m. by the Denver Clerk and Recorder’s Office show O’Brien holding 61.65% support (57,164 votes) to Clarke’s 38.35% (29,336 votes). The results are unofficial and will change as more ballots are counted. Neither candidate has yet declared victory or conceded the race.
With yet another win under his belt, O’Brien would head into his third term as the city’s auditor, meant to serve as a check and a balance against the mayor’s administration.
O’Brien’s campaign website boasts that he has more than 40 years of experience and finished more than 1,000 auditors as the city’s auditor and for the state.
At the same time, Denver Clerk and Recorder López will hold on to his seat for a second term. López, who has worked to boost his office’s transparency and increase voter turnout during his first term, ran unopposed for the seat and enjoys 100% support with 68,579 votes cast in his favor.
