In a March 21st report from the Times of London, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey notably asserts his belief that bitcoin will eventually become the “single currency” of the world. A stark assertion, to be sure, but one that Dorsey says could come to fruition in a decade.
Dorsey: “It Will Be Bitcoin”
Well, slot Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey as an official bitcoin bull, as he’s now taken a bold prediction about the original cryptocurrency’s future that goes farther than some of the space’s own bullish evangelists — not that they’d be upset in the least if Dorsey ends up right.
That’s because Dorsey believes bitcoin will become the main world currency over the next decade, per his remarks to The Times:
“The world ultimately will have a single currency, the internet will have a single currency. I personally believe that it will be bitcoin. [It’d take] probably over ten years, but it could go faster.”
Dorsey was fair, though, and noted in his comments that bitcoin still has a ways to go before its proposed world usurpation:
“It’s slow and it’s costly, but as more and more people have it, those things go away. There are newer technologies that build off of blockchain and make it more approachable,”
Dorsey’s Diving Into Crypto
It almost seems like Dorsey’s had his hands full with crypto lately.
First, there’s been the plague of crypto scams on Twitter that Dorsey and his team have been handling:
Next, news broke last week that Dorsey was among a slew of investors who contributed $2.5 million USD to Lightning Network developers Lightning Labs last week.
Oh, and Dorsey’s also the CEO of Square, whose Cash app recently started offering bitcoin buy / sell functionalities.
What’s next for Dorsey, then? Probably more bitcoin, by the looks of it.
What’s your take? Do you think Dorsey is right, will bitcoin become the single currency of the world in time? Or do you think there will be multiple dominant cryptocurrencies in the future? Sound off in the comments below.
