Will Smith tells Spanish TV host to lay off his wife back in 2010

‘Be careful with the words you use for my wife, OK?’: Moment Will Smith eyeballs Spanish TV presenter and warns him off offending his wife resurfaces after 12 years

  • In a clip resurfaced from 2010 on Spanish TV show El Hormiguero, Will Smith appears to tell host Pablo Motos to lay off his wife
  • At the time, Motos was complimenting Jada Pinkett Smith’s beauty and success
  • That’s when Smith stepped in and said: ‘Pablo, be careful with the words you use for my wife, okay!’
  • He then motioned to Motos to start talking while stretching his neck forward showing him he would be listening very closely to every word he was saying
  • Pablo ended up hugging Jada before giving Will a high five with, proving the actor was only fooling around with his threats
  • The moment reminisces to the one on Sunday when Smith sucker-punched Oscars ceremony host Chris Rock after the comedian joked about Smith’s wife
  • On Monday, Smith apologized for his actions on the day prior after Rock made a joke in bad taste about Jada’s alopecia condition

This is the moment Will Smith raises his hand to a Spanish TV presenter and warns him: ‘Careful with what you say to my wife’ as he put his arm around her.

Video footage from 2010 of the moment the Hollywood actor eyeballed Spanish broadcaster Pablo Motos from close range as he held Jada Pinkett Smith toward him resurfaced Wednesday after the 53-year-old star slapped Oscars host Chris Rock on stage on Sunday.

Motos, who hosts popular Spanish TV show El Hormiguero – which King Richard star Smith has attended several times, was about to start complimenting her on her beauty and professional success after giving the couple’s son Jaden advice on making it in the film business.

But the pint-sized host only got as far as pronouncing Jada’s name before the six-foot-two star raised his right hand and barked in Spanish: ‘Pablo, be careful with the words you use for my wife, OK?’

He then motioned to Motos to start talking while stretching his neck forward to show him he would be listening very closely to every word he was saying.

Smith replied: ‘Very good, very good’ as the Spanish star said he was not surprised at actress Jada’s success in Hollywood before telling her she was beautiful ‘outside and in’ after her husband had warned him again: ‘Cuidado, cuidado’ which in English translates as ‘Be Careful.’

The resurfaced clip has come into light following the now-infamous TV slap Smith handed down to Rock.

Smith – who just minutes later won the Best Actor award for his role in King Richard – shocked the crowd and viewers at home Sunday when he took the stage during Rock’s remarks after the comedian made a joke about Jada.

Rock said, ‘Jada, I love you. `G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it.’

The joke touched a nerve. Pinkett Smith, whose head is shaved, has spoken publicly about her alopecia diagnosis.

Will Smith then strode on stage and slapped Rock across the face. Back in his seat, Smith twice shouted for Rock to ‘get my wife’s name out your (expletive) mouth.’

Smith then got closer to Motos to make sure that that the host knew he was all ears about what he was going to say next about his wife – Jada Pinkett Smith

Smith later warns Motos one more time ‘Cuidado, cuidado,’ meaning ‘be careful, be careful’ after the popular Spanish TV figure complimented about Jada’s beauty and career success

The August 26, 2010, TV moment had finished with Pablo hugging Jada before doing a high five with Will, proving the actor at the center of the Oscar controversy was only fooling around with his threats.

But the footage was being rescued by eagle-eyed social media users on Wednesday following the extraordinary assault on Chris Rock which followed his poorly-received joke about Smith’s wife’s alopecia.

It resurfaced hours after Ukrainian reporter-turned prankster Vitalii Sediuk spoke about the moment a decade ago when he was pushed and given a backhanded slap to the face after he hugged and tried to kiss Smith on the red carpet at a premiere in Moscow.

Spanish film lover Toni Morejon said of the old footage filmed on El Hormiguero: ‘Will Smith already warned Pablo Motos way back what could happen to him’ before finishing his tweet with the hashtag #Oscars.

Motos is a household name in Spain where he has interviewed the likes of Justin Bieber, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston, Bradley Cooper and Chris Hemsworth.

Earlier this year the TV host branded former Chelsea and Man United manager Jose Mourinho the ‘lying one’ after accusing him of dirty tricks to get his daughter Matilde into a 2012 interview he did with the Canadian singer.

Mourinho is more used to being called the ‘special one’ after the famed moniker stuck with him in the years after he used it in 2004 to describe himself in his first spell at Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish TV host claimed the football manager had fooled him into believing he would give him an interview in exchange for free tickets for Matilde and a friend.

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars on Sunday, after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. On Monday, Smith apologized for his actions

After smacking Rock, a visibly fuming Smith returned to his seat and began repeatedly yelling: ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth’

On Tuesday, Smith indirectly apologized to comedian and Oscars master of ceremony Chris Rock after sucker-punching him on TV on Sunday for making a joke in bad taste about his wife Jada, saying a joke about her ‘medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally’

Motos has also forged a close relationship with Will Smith over the years following his multiple appearances on his TV show.

He has said of the Oscars incident on his program, now screened on Antena 3: ‘Although it is clear that the violence is unjustifiable and that Will Smith has screwed up and, surely, the Hollywood market is going to make him pay dearly, I would like us to understand the other side.

‘Chris Rock has to know that when you use freedom of expression in public you have to assume that you are going to pay a price. Freedom of expression is not free and those of us at this table know that.’
