Security minister Tom Tugendhat bizarrely starts using photo of TV drag queen ‘Kate Butch’ as his social media profile pic after being told they are doppelgangers

Tory minister Tom Tugendhat today changed his social media profile picture to a photo of TV drag queen ‘Kate Butch’ after being told they are doppelgangers.

The Conservative MP switched out his profile picture on X, formerly known as Twitter, for a photo of the contestant on hit show RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

It came after Mr Tugendhat, the security minister, was alerted to the likeness between himself and the 26-year-old drag queen following last night’s broadcast of the first episode of the show’s new series on BBC Three.

‘Congratulations to Tom Tugendhat on her debut on Drag Race UK x,’ one Twitter user quipped during the show, to which the politician replied: ‘You just wait for my next act.’

Mr Tugendhat then also briefly changed his profile picture to one of Kate Butch.

Fans of the BBC show pointed to the similarity between the Tory politician and the TV contender

Season five of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will see 10 contestants compete to be crowned the UK’s Next Drag Superstar 2023.

Kate Butch, from Buxton, Derbyshire, is among the hopefuls.

‘I describe myself as the Comic Sans of drag – instantly relatable but ultimately tragic,’ they told the show last night.

‘Like your mum’s friend “Sue” who has just discovered memes and then immediately had a nervous breakdown.

‘I am mainly known as a stand-up comedian. I don’t do what a lot of drag queens do and put on a wig and d*** about in a pub being mean to people and call that stand-up comedy. I call that my day off.’

They added: ‘I’m not your classic pretty, gorgeous, model-esque drag queen – I am the dinnerlady from down the street with a fleece with a picture of a wolf on it.’
