A mass murder who slaughtered 14 students and three teachers on Valentine's Day in 2018 once went on a gun-shooting rampage against frogs.
Nikolas Cruz, 23, who killed 17 innocent people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, has been locked up in Broward County Jail ever since.
But now the court battle has started, revealing distressing childhood incidents about him.

Cruz’s legal team are appealing to a Florida jury for him to be sentenced to life in prison without parole rather than have him on Death Row as he appears to wish for.
According to Paul Gold who lived next door to the Cruz family from 2008 to 2011 in Parkland, he once went on a “killing spree” against the neighbourhood's toads because his pet dog ate one and died.
“He tried to kill every toad in the neighbourhood,” Mr Gold
He also opened up about how the death of the shooter's adoptive mother Lynda affected him – he was to go on the killing spree at the school just three months later.
Mr Gold said that the boy was “very upset” at the funeral when not many people turned up.
In fact, it was revealed that just five people attended – Mr Gold, Mr Gold's ex Rocxanne, Mr Gold's daughter, Nikolas and his brother Zachary.

He recalled: “He was very upset, he asked me why is nobody here? I told him when we made the publication in the newspaper that we had put the wrong date.
“I was lying to him… But he seemed extremely upset… He said he believed too much smoking and too much drinking killed her.”
When he later found out that Nikolas had been the one responsible for the attack in the school, he had initially tried to call him to warn him about the attack.

But when the facts became clear, he “started screaming”.
The pair have spoken since, and oddly, Mr Gold questioned why nobody had made a “film” about the boy's life.
But Cruz said: “I don’t know if I’d want that to be honest with you.”
The hearing continues.
