Netflix reveals streaming giant’s all-time top ten most-watched ORIGINAL movies – which ones have you seen?
- Netflix revealed its most popular original films – 7 came out in the last two years
- Scorsese’s Irishman and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery were on the list
- Of the ten most-watched films five scored less than 60% on Rotten Tomatoes
Netflix has revealed its ten most-watched original films of all time, seven of which were released in the last two years, and most of which were not released to critical acclaim.
The two films with generally good reviews were Scorsese’s 2019 hit The Irishman, which was nominated for best picture at the Oscars, and more recently Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022, starring Daniel Craig.
Netflix’s ranking considers how many hours the film was viewed in the 28 days after they released. The list wouldn’t, therefore, credit films that grew in popularity a while after they came out.
It is also noteworthy that in the last five years, Netflix’s subscriber count has grown significantly, increasing the number of people who could access more recent films. When The Irishman was released in 2019, Netflix had 158 million subscribers, but when its most-viewed film Red Notice came out in 2021, it had 222 million.
Of the top ten, five have Rotten Tomatoes scores below 60 percent.
