Multiple Colorado schools temporarily were placed under a secure status due to reported threats that authorities believe are false. This is the second incident of swatting threats in a week.
Boulder High School, Pennock Elementary in Brighton, and Aspen schools were placed on secure status after receiving threats. The secure status at each school was lifted after no threats were found.
Secure status is different from a full lockdown by keeping the doors unlocked for police investigation and classes resume inside secured classrooms.
Swatting threats are when a person makes a false report of a threat in an attempt to prompt a large law enforcement response.
Colorado Emergency Management tweeted, “Div Homeland Security & Emergency Managemen staff in the State Emergency Operations Center and Colorado Information Analysis Center are aware of phone calls received by schools similar to last week’s prank calls.”
