Woman-hating killer who handcuffed his ex-girlfriend to a bed and slit her throat while acting out ‘rape fantasy’ before complaining he can’t get cup of tea in jail could be freed after parole hearing

A woman-hating killer who handcuffed his ex-girlfriend to a bed and slit her throat and then complained he couldn’t get a decent cup of tea in his maximum security jail has a parole hearing and could be freed.

David Ferguson, now 53, is serving life for the horrific 1999 murder of divorced mother-of-two Susan Kent, 33. She was repeatedly slashed as he acted out a rape fantasy at her home in Gillingham, Kent.

Ferguson was jailed in 2000 for a minimum term of 20-years and is now eligible for his second parole hearing. However, the killer – who claims he is innocent and should already have been released – still finds time to send rambling complaints via the web or to the prisoners’ mag Inside Time.

In the last few years the former print worker, who is caged at Category A Wakefield prison, has complained about everything from the water boilers at the high security jail breaking down to his belief he is being discriminated against ‘because he’s kinky’.

In 2021, Ferguson, labelled a ‘sex monster’ by a judge, made the astonishing claim that he was being kept in a Cat A jail and treated more harshly than other inmates as he identifies as ‘Kink’ or ‘K’, a term for people with an interest in sadomasochism.

He wrote on a friend’s internet site: ‘My sexual identity and orientation is being used against me by the prison service and its psychology department.

‘This is because I identify as “Kink” under the LGBTQ+ spectrum.’

Ferguson added: ‘The clear inferences in prison psychology reports is that unless I stop being kink my “risk” cannot be lowered.

‘I am pretty sure that a homosexual person accused and convicted of a homosexual crime (sexual or otherwise), would not have their sexual orientation and identity used against them in the same way that my sexual identity and orientation is being used against me by the prison service and its psychology department.’

Just five months ago in May 2023, writing from his cell at Wakefield prison, he told Inside Times the maximum security prison was ‘miserable’ and the showers were ‘cold’.

He said the prison was ‘crumbling’ and that the heating system was knackered, meaning either showers weren’t working or were freezing cold.

He penned: ‘Here at Wakefield the heating system has been broken for six years.

‘On D-wing, four out of 16 showers have not worked for over five years – showers have black mould growing up the walls.’

He added: ‘Water boilers for drinks have not been repaired for over five years. Similar failures of basic maintenance can be found on every wing.’

The murderer also whinged that prison guards ‘showed off’ to lags by wandering the corridors slurping barista-made frothy lattes.

He said ‘Frothy coffee for you, no water for us’, adding: ‘We have to rely on hot water boilers on the landing in order to fill our flasks.

The repeated rants will be referenced in the prison documentation submitted to the three person parole panel that will consider Ferguson’s application to be released on licence or moved to an open jail.

MailOnline can reveal that the sadist will have a new parole hearing – his second – early next year and could be freed weeks later, despite the fact he still refuses to accept his guilt.

A spokesperson for the Parole Board said: ‘An oral hearing has been listed for the parole review of David Ferguson and is scheduled to take place in January 2024.

‘Parole Board decisions are solely focused on what risk a prisoner could represent to the public if released and whether that risk is manageable in the community.

‘A panel will carefully examine a huge range of evidence, including details of the original crime, and any evidence of behaviour change, as well as explore the harm done and impact the crime has had on the victims.

‘Members read and digest hundreds of pages of evidence and reports in the lead up to an oral hearing.

‘Evidence from witnesses including probation officers, psychiatrists and psychologists, officials supervising the offender in prison as well as victim personal statements are then given at the hearing.

‘The prisoner and witnesses are then questioned at length during the hearing which often lasts a full day or more.

‘Parole reviews are undertaken thoroughly and with extreme care. Protecting the public is our number one priority.’

In 1999, Maidstone Crown Court heard how sex-obsessed Ferguson stabbed Susan ten times as he acted out a rape fantasy.

He then cut her throat and left her to die cuffed to the bed at her home.

The school dinner lady and part-time childminder was found by her mother-in-law, Iris Kent, semi-naked in her bedroom.

Iris Kent had been tipped off by a head teacher when Susan failed to pick up her eight-year-old daughter Jessica from school.

She arrived moments before a taxi driver who was dropping off Susan’s autistic son, Julian, 11, from his school.

The children were left outside while the adults went inside and made their grisly discovery.

Wendy Joseph QC, prosecuting, told the court: ‘In the front upstairs bedroom they found Susan Kent. She was face down on the bed, which was soaked with her blood and she was dead.’

Ms Joseph said:’Her throat had been cut with a knife a number of times. There were also quite a number of stab wounds through her breasts going considerable distance into her body.’

Ferguson’s trial heard he had been trying to set up a ‘rape club’ on the net and described women as ‘pieces of meat’.

The court was also told he used the web to research how to get away with the crime.

Depraved Ferguson was linked to the murder by DNA but he still claims he is innocent. This is believed to be the reason why his first parole appeal was rejected.

In 2015, the killer married his girlfriend Carol Nash behind bars, having proposed to her two years earlier.

The Daily Star reported the pair enjoyed a wedding complete with a buffet, flowers and wedding cake at the ceremony at HMP Wakefield.

He said that the prison management had been as ‘obstructional as they possibly could be’ in seeing the ceremony, which was attended by five people, go ahead.
