A royal author once dubbed Meghan Markle's "mouthpiece" has now distanced himself from the Duchess of Sussex as a storm around his latest book intensifies.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Omid Scobie said he is not "Meghan's pal" and said his book Endgame is a very serious one about the state of the modern British monarchy.
The post came before the Royal Family was dragged into a race row after two members were named for allegedly speculating over the skin colour of Harry and Meghan's son Archie before he was born in May 2019. They were named in a Dutch version of Scobie's book.

"And let's get this nonsense out the way – #ENDGAME is about the current state of the British Royal Family. It's not 'Harry and Meghan's book', I'm not 'Meg's pal', the Sussexes have nothing to do with it, their story is a small part of a much bigger one you can read in 12 days."
Despite claiming he's "not friends" with the former actress, he admitted they share "mutual friends". Meghan reportedly reached out to Omid after he was harassed online. The journalist received threats on social media, prompting the Duchess of Sussex to personally check on his welfare after hearing about his ordeal from her team.
Omid first crossed paths with Meghan at Toronto fashion week in 2015. He's claimed to have shared a "big farewell hug" with Meghan in Buckingham Palace after the Sussexes' final Royal engagement.
Often labelled as Meghan's mouthpiece, Omid has frequently shown sympathy towards Meghan andPrince Harry. "Mouthpiece, cheerleader, unofficial spokesperson, not a journalist, I've heard them all," he confessed in a chat with Town and Country.

In 2020, he co-authored 'Finding Freedom', a book centred on Harry and Meghan's lives. It delved into their early relationship, marriage, and exit from the Royal Family, along with their dealings with The Firm.
Meghan shockingly confessed that a former aide assisted Omid with his first book, which was supposedly unauthorised. It came to light in court last year that Meghan was aware of it.
Despite Meghan's knowledge of 'Finding Freedom', sources close to the Sussexes insist they had no involvement with 'Endgame'. Speaking to the Daily Mail, they also refuted claims that Omid is part of the "Sussex Camp".
Omid revealed that he didn't interview Meghan for his forthcoming book. In a chat with The Times, he shared how he gathers information about Meghan and Harry.
"I have mutual friends with [Meghan], and that definitely helps with getting information and breaking details," he explained.
