Ex-wife accused of man’s murder ‘spoke to him through psychic after his death’

A woman accused of her ex-husband’s brutal murder ‘got a message from him through a psychic’ four days after his death, a court has heard.

Bolton Crown Court heard how Coleen Campbell, who had been married to Thomas Campbell for a decade, allegedly spoke with the clairvoyant four days after he had been found dead at his home in July last year.

Prosecutors allege the victim had been 'tortured to death' in an horrific two-hour ordeal.

Ms Campbell is not alleged to have been at the scene of the murder, but the prosecution believes she passed on information about her former spouse's whereabouts.

Ms Campbell, 38, Stephen Cleworth, 38, and Reece Steven, 29, all denied murder at Bolton Crown Court. A third man, alleged to have been the 'mastermind' of the murder plot, is believed to have left the country.

The men stand accused of plotting to rob Mr Campbell at his home after seeing a Manchester Evening News article about the “wealthy lifestyle” the victim enjoyed with his ex-wife.

Today (Thursday, January 26), the ninth day of the trial, jurors heard a statement from Thomas Campbell's mother, Lynn. Jurors were told that Coleen Campbell visited her home on July 7.

"Coleen told me she had visited a psychic in Wythenshawe," she said in the statement, adding that Coleen had been holding an A4 piece of paper at the time.

"She looked as though she was reading things off the sheet," Lynn Campbell said. "Coleen told me that Thomas had come through during her visit to the psychic and asked her to come to my house."

Lynn said Coleen Campbell had told her 'these lads had hurt him and done something to his face'.

"It was over a girl or girls," she said in her statement. "While she was saying these words Coleen gestured with her hand across her cheek."

Lynn Campbell said she had made it clear that she didn't want to know the nature of her son's injuries, the court heard.

"I told her I don't want to know," she said. "I have told the police that. I was saying this in relation to her about his injuries.”

Coleen Campbell told her there were 'only two people involved in the incident and not three, and they were still in the country', the jury heard.

"Coleen then told me Thomas had said he wasn't bothered about dying young as he had lived a full life.

"I didn't see Coleen again following this and haven't seen her since."

A fourth defendant in the trial, Karl Murphy, 50, of Lancaster Road, Denton, denies participating in the activities of an organised crime group. He is accused of driving Mr Campbell's attackers to the scene before the alleged murder.

The trial continues.
