Driver high and drunk killed brother and two others in horror crash

A driver who was so high on drugs and alcohol that he ended up killing his brother and two other people has been told that jail is “inevitable”.

Samuel Williamson, 33, was driving a Vauxhall Astra convertible, despite not having a licence or insurance on on December 4, 2020.

Having drunk alcohol and taken drugs before getting behind the wheel, Williamson smashed the car into a wall which launched his brother James, 37, and friend Mandy McCallum, 30, through the windows.

Passenger Ernest Beveridge, 62, was also killed following the tragedy on Hamilton Road in Glasgow.

A blood test was carried out at hospital which uncovered that Williamson was more than three times over the limit, Glasgow Live reports.

It turned out that he had six different drugs in his system, including cocaine and morphine.

Williamson pleaded guilty earlier this week, although had initially claimed he wasn't driving the car – even though his fingerprints were on the wheel.

And the prosecutor at Glasgow's High Court has told him that he is certain to face jail time for what happened.

Prosecutor Chris MacIntosh said: “It is the collision investigator's conclusion that the crash was entirely due to the fault of Williamson as the driver.”

And John Brannigan, who was defending Williamson, said: “Mr Williamson wishes to express his deepest sympathy to those involved who lost their lives and families affected.

"It is something that has weighed heavily on his mind which is nothing compared to the fatalities. It is the most tragic case and he knows this."

Mr Beveridge is survived by two children, while Williamson's brother James is survived by a six-year-old son.

Miss McCallum is survived by her son, 13.

It was revealed that unemployed Williamson had 16 previous convictions at the time of the collision.

Judge Graham Buchanan said: “It goes without saying, this is a matter of the uttermost seriousness and it is inevitable a substantial sentence of imprisonment will be imposed.”

Williamson returns to the dock today (January 13) to find out how long he will be imprisoned for.
