American police taking woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann ‘seriously’

American police are taking the case of the Polish woman who claims to be Madeleine McCann "seriously", according to a private investigator.

Julia Wendell, 21, is now in the US having fled her home country following a number of death threats.

She went viral on Instagram after revealing she thinks she might be Madeleine, the missing girl from Leicestershire who vanished during a family holiday to Portugal in 2007 aged just three.

Julia claimed she does not remember large parts of her childhood, and that she was never treated as part of the family by her parents or siblings.

She also claimed she was abused by a German paedophile who resembled a one-time suspect in Madeleine's disappearance. She supposedly found a family photo of that man in an older relative's house.

Other "evidence" she has put forward includes a speck in her eye like Madeleine and her allegedly overhearing her mum admit to "taking" her.

And recently Dr Fia Johansson – a private detective and self-professed medium helping prove her claims – said her team found no hospital records for Julia in Wroclaw (the city she supposedly grew up in) relating to the first five years of her life.

Julia has faced severe backlash in recent weeks, deleting her Facebook and TikTok accounts and having her Instagram removed.

Dr Johansson whisked her to a safehouse in the US after death threats, some that she said "put a price on her head".

This came after creeps allegedly posed as friends of the McCanns in a bid to lure Julia to a hotel.

Earlier today (Wednesday, March 8) Julia was pictured on Dr Johansson's Instagram, safe and sound at an undisclosed location in California.

It was on Instagram where Dr Johansson also revealed she had been in contact with US authorities over Julia, who were taking the matter "seriously".

She wrote in a series of posts: "We've officially filed a report with law enforcement taking into account all the threats made online, documenting every account and individuals associated with disseminating threats and falsehoods regarding Julia's case and status.

"We've shared every email and social media account that's communicated directly with Julia, both threatening or attempting to lie about their connection to her family/Madeleine's family in order to lure her to their country.

"As with threats of this magnitude, US police are taking her case seriously and looking into all information/accounts with caution and deep concern.

"Julia is safe and she is happy. She wants to say THANK YOU to everyone that has shown her compassion, understanding, and support since this all began.

"Having the police involved in her case now is good news. We also will share some positive updates shortly. Thank you all for your care and positive thoughts for Julia!"

Julia's family have denied her claims. According to Dr Johansson, her mum and dad have also blocked Julia's number and are refusing to do a DNA test.
