With millions of Americans unemployed and more than 231,000 dead from COVID-19 as cases rise across the country, President Donald Trump's closing message to voters on the eve of Election Day was centered on personal grievances and attacking celebrities who've thrown their support behind former Vice President Joe Biden.

At a rally in Avoca, Pennsylvania, on Monday, Trump targeted Lady Gaga and Jon Bon Jovi.

"Now he's got Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga. It's not too good. I could tell you plenty of stories. I could tell you stories about Lady Gaga. I know a lot of stories. Lady Gaga. And Jon Bon Jovi. Every time I see him, he kisses my a–," Trump said, prompting laughter from the audience.

The president discussed multiple celebrities and their support for Democrats during the Avoca rally, including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and LeBron James.

Bon Jovi in late October performed at a drive-in rally for Biden and his vice-presidential running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, in Dallas, Pennsylvania. Lady Gaga was set to perform at a drive-in rally for the Democratic presidential nominee in Pittsburgh on Monday night.

The Trump campaign has lashed out at Lady Gaga, in particular, in recent days.

Tim Murtaugh, the Trump campaign communications director, on Sunday tweeted: "Nothing exposes Biden's disdain for the forgotten working men & women of PA like campaigning with anti-fracking activist Lady Gaga. This desperate effort to drum up enthusiasm is actually a sharp stick in the eye for 600,000 Pennsylvanians who work in the fracking industry."

The president echoed this message in an early-morning tweet on Monday, stating: "Just learned that Sleepy Joe Biden is campaigning in Pennsylvania with Lady Gaga, a proud member of 'Artists Against Fracking.'"

Trump has repeatedly and falsely claimed that Biden wants to ban fracking.

In response to Murtaugh's tweet, Gaga tweeted: "HEY TIM HEY @realDonaldTrump SO HAPPY IM GLAD TO BE LIVING RENT FREE in your HEAD. #BidenHarris."

Trump is trailing Biden in the national polls and the former vice president also has a lead over the president in Pennsylvania. The state, where 20 electoral votes are up for grabs, is seen as crucial by both campaigns in terms of their pathway to victory.

The president won in Pennsylvania by less than 1 percentage point in 2016.

As of Monday, Biden leads Trump by roughly 5 percentage points in Pennsylvania, according to FiveThirtyEight's updating average.
