Boris-bashing Simon Case says civil servants much happier with Sunak

Simon Case, the Cabinet Secretary and head of the civil service, has openly admitted today that he and other mandarins are much happier to have Rishi sunak as Prime Minister than his predecessors Liz Truss and Boris Johnson.

Mr Case was giving evidence to MPs on the Commons Public Administration Committee and was challenged by Conservative Southport MP Damien Moore over relations betweeen Whitehall civil servants and ministers being “at an all time low.”

But in response, Mr Case made a point that mandarins are much happier “with the current Prime Minister”.

His response appeared to feed into claims by supporters of Mr Johnson and Ms Truss that civil servants played a role in their downfalls.

One Tory MP commented after: “The answer speaks for itself”.

While another Tory MP messaged Express.co.uk: “The plot thickens!”

Mr Case said to Mr Moore: “The last five years or so has seen an increased number of attacks on civil servants individually and collectively by significant political figures.

“I am very happy to say under this Prime Minister things have changed very significantly.”

He quoted Mr Sunak praising civil servants at the Liaison Committee last week and being “fortunate.”

He said: “That tone about how ministers are supportuing civil servants in public has changed quite significantly.”

Mr Case went on: “I am very pleased to sayt under this prime minister with his ministerial team and with me he has been keen to improve relations where they have not been working well.”

He said that those who refered to civil servants as “the blob” deliberately undermining the elected government are being “insulting dehumanising and totally unacceptable”.
