Lagerfeld told French magazine Numero in 2018 that he had named the Birman cat as one of the heirs of his estate.

In the interview, he said Choupette was in his will, "among others".

But he added: "Don't worry, there is enough for everyone."

After he had passed, it was then revealed that he had left his beloved cat £1.3million.

Upon his death she was left to the designer's caretaker Françoise Caçote, who stopped working to devote her time to caring for her.

The hefty inheritance was to go to Françoise to ensure neither her nor the pampered feline would ever want for anything.

But as of April 2023, Lagerfeld's complex web of assets, funds and debts mean his will has not yet been executed.

But fear not, the cat is still well looked after, and already has a substantial fortune to her name, having earned £2.3m doing adverts for a German car firm and a Japanese cosmetics brand with Lagerfeld.

In the same interview with Numero, Lagerfeld revealed he employed two maids to look after the pampered animal who, he said, has "four different dishes prepared for her" each day "served in fabulous bowls".

What was Karl Lagerfeld's cause of death?

Did Karl Lagerfeld and Coco Chanel meet?

While Lagerfeld was responsible for breathing life back into the Chanel brand in the 80s, he never actually met founder, Coco Chanel, who died in 1971.

In fact, Lagerfeld revealed how he believed Coco wouldn't have actually liked him.

Speaking in 2013 to an audience of French fashion students, he revealed how he thought the Chanel founder would have "hated" him if they had ever met.

Lagerfeld said he had been a "rude awakening" for the prestigious fashion house, which had "grown dusty" before his arrival in 1982.

He told an audience of hundreds of students in Paris: "I never bumped into Coco Chanel. It was better that way, she would have hated me.

"You have to respect things, but if you want to survive, you have to change them."

How old was Karl Lagerfeld when he died?

Lagerfeld was born in Hamburg on September 10, 1933, and died in France on February 19, 2019.

This means the iconic fashion designer was 85 when he passed away.

Alain Wertheimer, CEO of Chanel, said at the time: "Thanks to his creative genius, generosity and exceptional intuition, Karl Lagerfeld was ahead of his time, which widely contributed to the House of Chanel’s success throughout the world.

"Today, not only have I lost a friend, but we have all lost an extraordinary creative mind to whom I gave carte blanche in the early 1980s to reinvent the brand."

What did he say about the British Royal Family?

In 2006, Lagerfeld met the late Princess Diana but branded her "stupid" in an interview with New York Magazine.

He even attended her funeral in 1997, but said bluntly: "She was pretty and she was sweet, but she was stupid."

Lagerfeld spoke far more favourably of Diana's son Prince William's choice of wife, acknowledging that Kate Middleton has a "nice silhouette" and is "the right girl for that boy".

And of the late Queen he said: "She is flawless… Apparently, she’s full of wit and spirit."
