
A Russian warplane has reportedly crashed in the country’s Murmansk region, according to state media outlet TASS.
Videos posted on social media showed the jet rapidly losing altitude as it raced across the skies above Russia.
The footage showed flames billowing from the aircraft’s rear, with a trail of smoke following it towards the ground.
Citing preliminary data from local law enforcement agencies, TASS said the plane fell into a lake in the region, which is just over 100 miles away from Finland.
The Murmansk region lies approximately 150 miles to the east of the Finnish border station of Raja-Jooseppi.
The area is similarly close to Norway, with the village of Svanvik 155 miles to Murmansk’s west.
