Moment half-drunk pint SHATTERS randomly in 'haunted' pub

Glass-buster! Moment a half-drunk pint SHATTERS randomly in a pub which staff claim is haunted by ghost of tenant who died in flat above the boozer

  • Locals say the Coniston Tavern in Nuneaton in haunted by former tenant Dave

This is the moment a half-drunk pint glass shatters spontaneously in a pub which staff claim to be haunted by a former tenant ‘trying to steal drinks’.

CCTV shows a workman chatting to two friends at a table in the Coniston Tavern in Nuneaton, Warwickshire around lunchtime on Monday when his pint explodes, showering him in lager and shards of glass.

It comes just four months after another drinker was sitting at the same table when his pint glass mysteriously slid onto the floor. Both incidents were captured on the pub’s security cameras.

Locals say the pub, which has seen a series of other creepy occurrences, is haunted by a former tenant called Dave who used to live in the flat above.

Landlord Andy Gadsby, who runs the pub with his wife Katie, 32, was serving customers on Monday when he heard the commotion coming from the other side of the bar.

Mr Gadsby, 35, said: ‘One of customers looked pretty wet with lager and he said the pint exploded in front of him. At first I thought the glass might have had a hairline crack after coming out the washer and the cold lager caused it to break.

‘If that had happened you wouldn’t expect it to explode and he’d already drank half the drink so the glass was clearly cold.’

Mr Gadsby said that as he went through his security tapes, he suddenly realised another customer lost his drink at that same table in December.

‘One of customers looked pretty wet with lager and he said the pint exploded in front of him,’ the pub landlord said of the incident. ‘At first I thought the glass might have had a hairline crack after coming out the washer and the cold lager caused it to break. If that had happened you wouldn’t expect it to explode and he’d already drank half the drink so the glass was clearly cold.’

‘He had sat down at the same table and his pint looked like it’d been pushed onto the floor,’ the bar owner recalled.

‘It’s very mysterious and the two incidents have spooked people out.’

The Gadsbys have been running the pub for seven months but have since been told it’s haunted.

‘Apparently a tenant called Dave lived in the flat above the pub and one night he drank a bottle of brandy and had a heart attack and died,’ Mr Gadsby said.

‘Maybe his spirit is around the pub and he’s desperately trying to pinch people’s drinks.’
