People are in shock after finding out the age of Catherine O’Hara when she played Kevin McCallister’s busy mom of FIVE in iconic Home Alone role

Fans of the beloved Christmas movie Home Alone have been shocked to discover how old the actor who played Kevin McCallister’s mom was when she shot the film. 

In the 1990 hit festive movie, Kevin’s mom Kate is played by screen legend Catherine O’Hara, who is now 69 years old.

But people have been shocked to discover that O’Hara was only 36 when she played the mother of five who accidentally leaves her son at home during the holidays in the first Home Alone film.

One fan took to TikTok to express her shock, noting that while O’Hara may have seemed well into adulthood in the film, she was in fact the same age as fellow actor Lindsay Lohan is now as she expects her first child.

Home Alone stars Macaulay Culkin as 8-year-old Kevin, who acts up before a family trip to Paris for Christmas, so is sent to sleep in the attic. 

When he wakes up the next day, his entire extended family – including 11 kids – have gone on the trip without him, leaving him alone in an empty house.

His excitement soon sours, however, when he realizes that two con men are planning to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home. 

Fans might be forgiven for assuming O’Hara, who plays Kevin’s desperate mom trying to get back from Paris to save her son, was in fact more mature than she was when the movie was filmed. 

Kate could well be approaching middle age considering she has five kids, and what appears to be a multi-million-dollar home. 

First released in 1990, the movie spawned a four-film franchise which finished over a decade later in 2022 but is still beloved by audiences worldwide.
