Mother of ‘the other Liz Truss’ who politicians congratulated on Twitter by mistake says her daughter is a FAN of the new PM and would have dreamed of meeting the Queen
- Liz Trussell, 40, claimed the Twitter handle @Liztruss before the incoming PM
- Led to confusion with Swedish PM and other politicians tweeting the wrong Liz
- Ms Trusell’s mother Yvonne said that her daughter is a big fan of her namesake
- Also revealed she had been subjected to trolling after the leader was announced
A woman named Liz Trussell, who many politicians confused for Liz Truss on Twitter, is a big fan of her namesake, her mother has revealed.
Liz Trusell, 40, claimed the Twitter handle @Liztruss before the incoming Prime Minister, whose own handle is @trussliz – leading to congratulations being sent to the wrong person after Boris Johnson’s replacement was announced yesterday.
Even Sweden’s Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson tweeted a message of support to the wrong Liz before swiftly deleting it, though not before Ms Trussell cheekily replied.
‘Congratulations to Liz Truss, who will assume the role of Prime Minister of the UK. Sweden and UK will continue our deep and extensive cooperation. Important for our citizens, economies and security,’ Sweden’s PM wrote.
‘Looking forward to a visit soon! Get the meatballs ready,’ Ms Trussell – who boasts 2475 followers and is following 127- said in a reply.
Her mother Yvonne says she’s a big fan of her namesake – and would have loved to have met the Queen today.
Speaking from her home in Reading, Berkshire, Yvonne told MailOnline: ‘She would love to meet the Queen. That has always been her dream. I suppose if she really was Liz Truss today she would have made that dream come true.’

Asked if she would have voted for the new Prime Minister, she said: ‘Probably.’
She added: ‘When Liz talked about meatballs with the Swedish Prime Minister. it was funny as that’s the kind of sense of humour she has.
‘She no longer uses the surname Trussell as she has got married and has taken a different name,’ she added.
Yvonne said her daughter, who works for Pepsi, had been subjected to some trolling online by people mistakenly assuming she was the Tory Leader.
She added: ‘She has used that name on Twitter for years.
‘But this (online attention) started yesterday morning and although it is funny, it’s also not very nice because she is not the Prime Minister and not a politician.’

She tweeted ‘me and Queen Liz would deffo be besties’ as she joked about the situation – here she is pictured celebrating Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding in May 2018

Fun-loving Ms Trussell, who is pictured on her social media celebrating Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding in May 2018, appeared to be seeing the humorous side to the confusion.
And it’s not the first time she has been confused for Liz Truss as back in 2013 she tweeted: ‘Would like it to be known that I’m not and never will b a politician!!!!!’
Green MP for Brighton Caroline Lucas was another who yesterday tweeted @Liztruss saying she ‘still doesn’t get it’.
‘@LizTruss still doesn’t get it – Boris Johnson did *not* get Brexit done, his myriad mistakes over Covid cost countless lives, & he leaves having disgraced his office,’ she hit out.
‘Meanwhile, she’s campaigned as a right wing ideologue & will govern as such – which is a disaster for all of us.’
The British MP realised her mistake before saying: ‘Apologies, my previous tweet about #ToryLeadership should have been directed to @TrussLiz – not Liz Trussell who tweets at @LizTruss – tho frankly she’d probably make a better job of it.’
Miss Truss’ Twitter account has 361.4k followers and the slogan ‘Trusted To Deliver’ in the banner.
Her bio information says: ‘MP for South West Norfolk. Foreign Secretary. Minister for Women and Equalities. Leader of the Conservative Party.’
Ms Trussell appeared to see the funny side of the saga, sending lighthearted replies and jokingly preparing to meet the Queen.
‘Me and Queen Liz would deffo be besties,’ she said.
Many have been getting the Twitter accounts mixed up, including Brit MP Caroline Lucas who admitted she’d directed a tweet to the wrong person
One Twitter user said: ‘Many congratulations to @LizTruss well done.
‘Show them all that the best man for the job is a WOMAN.’
To which Ms Trussell replied: ‘Preach sister.’
She also wrote: ‘Just getting ready to head up to Balmoral! Looking forward to meeting the Corgi’s.’
One Twitter user even said they’d like to see her on the cover of Vogue.

Miss Truss was confirmed as leader of the Conservative Party yesterday after defeating Rishi Sunak 57:43 in a vote by members.
In her acceptance speech she vowed to ‘deliver, deliver, deliver’.
She added: ‘I will deliver a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy. I will deliver on the energy bills crisis, dealing with people’s energy bills but also dealing with the long-term issues we have on energy supply. And I will deliver on the National Health Service.’
Today Chief Secretary to the Treasury Simon Clarke stressed that Liz Truss ‘stands full-square behind’ every spending pledge she made during the Tory leadership campaign.
Mr Clarke, who has been tipped to become Levelling Up Secretary in her Government, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘There will be an announcement about energy policy, which will be the Government’s most immediate priority on entering office.
‘And then there will be, in the course of the next few weeks, a financial statement, which will address other parts of Liz’s economic strategy.

‘But the immediate priority is obviously to provide certainty as to the level of bills, but the commitments made during the campaign on tax absolutely stand.’
Mr Clarke was asked whether her numerous spending pledges, including raising defence spending and diverting £13 billion earmarked for the NHS to social care, stand.
He replied: ‘Liz stands full-square behind every commitment made during the campaign.’
Simon Clarke also said he ‘would be astonished’ if Liz Truss’s new Cabinet did not include people who backed her rival Rishi Sunak in the Tory leadership contest.
‘It will include people from right across the party and I would be astonished if it didn’t include people who backed Rishi,’ he added.
‘The reality is that everybody wants to see the Conservative Party unite and bring together talent from across the party.’
He also said he was ‘certain that Liz will be magnanimous in victory’ and that the ‘situation demands that we get together and that we govern in the national interest’.
