Politician Mark Latham has had a fine for using a mobile phone while driving withdrawn by transport authorities.
Latham had been accused of using his phone while not permitted, and being detected by a camera, but opted to challenge the infringement in court.

On Monday, when the case was mentioned at Downing Centre Local Court, a prosecutor for Transport for NSW said the single charge was being withdrawn. He handed a letter to the registrar explaining the withdrawal.
Speaking outside court, Latham’s lawyer Danny Eid said it was “a matter for Transport for NSW” as to why the charge was dropped.
“They’ve considered the matter very closely and they’ve determined that the most appropriate course is to withdraw; I tend to agree,” he said.
Eid said the allegation against Latham had been “merely that he possessed a mobile phone while driving”, but this had now been withdrawn and dismissed.
Latham did not have to attend court on Monday and was not present.
Asked if Latham was relieved, Eid said: “Of course.”
Latham, the former federal Labor leader, currently represents One Nation in the NSW upper house.
