A night which was meant to be three friends having fun in a hot tub turned sinister when only one walked away alive.
Marcus Lillard survived, while his girlfriend Marianne Shockley, a 43-year-old professor at the University of Georgia and homeowner Clark Heindel in May 2019.
41-year-old Lillard claimed that “the devil was at work” and Marianne had drowned in the hot tub.

But authorities were suspicious given that the professor had a bloody gash on her head. The medical examiner later determined she had been strangled.
While officers were at the scene 69-year-old Heindel, a former psychologist killed himself, leaving a three-page suicide note.
However, he did not take responsibility for Marianne’s death or reveal what had happened.
The bizarre incident is being chronicled in the documentary The Strange Death of Professor Shockley which aired on Saturday.
He told CBS: "The devil was at work."
Describing the bizarre experience he said: "I mean, everything that he could have possibly done to line this thing up to make it confusing and deceitful and it was all there."

Both Lillard and Heindel were named as suspects.
Lillard was indicted for felony murder and additional charges, but that was after a week-long trial was acquitted.
He claims not to remember what happened, having drunk a lot of alcohol and taken ecstasy.
"There is good and there is evil and that night, evil came to play," Lillard said.
