One in three children say they learn more from TikTok videos than they do at school, a survey has found.

Pupils as young as five are turning to the social media app for help – despite its minimum age limit of 13.

Around a quarter of those polled said they felt TikTok creators explained their schoolwork better than their teachers.

Pupils using the app claim they can find answers to anything they want, with a fifth assuming what they hear is correct.

The subjects they are most likely to use TikTok for are English, music, and maths.

In 2020 TikTok announced plans to commission hundreds of experts to produce educational content after bosses noticed an interest in academic videos.

Alongside universities and charities, celebrities also provide videos, including TV presenter Rachel Riley talking about maths.

Researchers at Oxford Home Schooling surveyed 1,000 pupils in the UK aged between five and 16.

Greg Smith, head of operations, said the popularity of social media is well documented ‘but our research has highlighted the scale of children using the app for educational purposes’.
