Charles’ one-word reply to cheeky bloke’s beer invite at Commonwealth Games

Prince Charles had a cheeky response to a bloke who invited him to go for a beer in Birmingham city centre while he was making an appearance for the Commonwealth Games.

Spectator Daniel Walker was walking to Brindley Place to meet his mates for a drink when he spotted His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, meeting crowds at the Festival Site in Victoria Square ahead of the event’s opening ceremony on July 28.

Daniel was a little late finishing his shift at E-liquids.com in Bennetts Hill, leaving just before 6pm instead of the usual 5pm, but the timing was just perfect to allow him to ask Charles if he would join him for a drink.

Speaking to Birmingham Live, the 32-year-old explained: “I had to stay a bit later at work and left at 5.50pm and was walking to have a beer with friends in Lulu Wild in Brindley Place.

"I had to walk through Victoria Square to get there and turned right and saw Prince Charles and thought let’s ask him if he want to come for a beer.”

The moment was captured by Andrew Gould who posted the exchange on TikTok, which has surpassed 70,000 views since it was posted last week.

You can see Daniel cheekily ask: “Charles, Charles, are you going to go for a beer? At first Prince Charles says ‘What’ but then with a broad grin on his face said ‘Where?’ and points towards Daniel.

He replies "Anywhere, Albert's Schloss?", which was on the way to his original destination, Lulu Wild. The Prince then replies "thank you very much".

But that wasn't the spectator's last encounter with the Prince as Daniel added: “I didn’t expect him to respond. When he said ‘What’ that made me a bit nervous.

“And after he said where and I said Albert's Schloss, ‘Thank you for the recommendation’ I think he said.

"I walked around and I could see his security guard wanted to speak to me. I introduced myself and he said if you hang out here you can chat to him.

"I waited around five minutes and Prince Charles came over and asked me what I did and shook my hand.

"He said ‘good luck with your ventures’. It’s changed my view of Prince Charles. I thought the Royal Family was stuck up. I am all about laughs and jokes.”

Daniel then went to meet his friends in Lulu Wild and they did not believe he had met the future king moments before.

He said: “My mates thought I was lying. I have gone to bed that night and woke up and everybody has shared this TikTok video.

“I have got in contact with Andrew who took it and now everyone is keeping me updated on how many views it has had.”
