It's adios Benidorm – bargain-hunting Brits would rather rock out in Blackpool. More holidaymakers continue to choose staycations as air fares soar, hotel search site Trivago found.
Their chief executive Johannes Thomas has claimed UK hotel bookings from July to the end of this year have been dominated by domestic destinations.
While most associate summer holidays with hot weather and a dip in the pool, it appears more Brits fancy a week in Blackpool over Benidorm.

Since it rose to prominence as a tourist attraction in the 1950s, millions of boozed-up holidaymakers have jumped on their flights to Alicante and headed down to the infamous strip to indulge in all-inclusive breakfasts, down pints in the double digits and dive into the pool.
And by the time night rolls around, those who make it a tradition of going to the infamous holiday destination head out to enjoy the nightlife, watching Take That tribute acts before grabbing a kebab and failing miserably to beat the high score on the punching machine.
However, while that all sounds amazing, according to Viagogo, Brits would rather head to Blackpool to ride the Big One and visit Sea Life than make the trip over to Spain.
Thomas said: “The UK is a very domestic market. Part of that is down to airline tickets, which are significantly more expensive. Overall, across the globe – it’s true for the US, Europe and the UK – people are going closer to home. They’re also choosing to stay shorter periods, and that’s probably a sign of higher ticket prices.”
The news may come as a bitter blow to sun-loving Brits who enjoy the magic of taking that first step off the plane and being hit with that warm Spanish air. But on the bright side, Blackpool is a lot easier to get to, and I can guarantee all the tribute acts are the same.
