Sadly, Chief Inspector Paul Holden of Merseyside Police revealed that her body was found.
"At around 12.30 this afternoon, Thursday, June 1, 2023, emergency services were called to reports of concerns for safety of a teenage girl who got into distress while swimming with friends in Carr Mill Dam in St Helens," he said.
"Upon their arrival at the scene, officers entered the water in attempts to find the teenage girl. They were joined by officers from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service.
"Unfortunately despite their best efforts, the search culminated in the recovery of the girl's body. Next of kin have been aware and specialist family liaison officers will be appointed to support the family at this very sad and tragic time.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said paramedics were in attendance assisting emergency service colleagues.
The Carr Mill Dam has been the site of several incidents over the past few years.
In 2015, fire services had to rescue a woman who became stuck in mud near the area, with the rescue taking more than an hour-and-a-half to complete.
Things got so bad in the area that in 2020, a charity was forced to step in and install several safety throw lines for people visiting the popular beauty spot.
