Baseball star blinded by punch ‘for £16 bet’ now suing attackers for millions

A rising baseball star was blinded in a brutal punch to the face that was carried out over a £16 bet between friends.

Kelsey Moore, 18, was left with a slate of injuries including blindness in one eye and a broken neck after a cowardly group hosted a bet.

The promising ball player had been attending Collinwood High School in Tennessee, United States when a group of teenagers jumped him and left him bloodied and beaten.

Kelsey and his family are now suing the group, who recorded their savage attack on the baseball player left with "panic attacks" and a "lifetime of damage".

An attorney representing the Moore family, Loren Klitsas, said: "It caused a lifetime of damage to this boy. And he's lost all chance to play college baseball. He has panic attacks when he sees cars or things that are strange to him, and he's just not the same."

Kelsey was assaulted by the group of thugs this time last year on Easter Sunday 2022 in a car park, Insider reported.

He was unexpectedly punched in the face after Brandison Dru Daniel, now 21, allegedly offered a £16 ($20) bet to Luke Makara, now 18, to punch Kelsey in the face.

Images of the attack were "widely shared" following the assault, the lawsuit alleges.

Daniel and Makara are facing aggravated assault charges after the bet and subsequent punch left Kelsey with facial fractures, lost vision in an eye, hearing loss in one ear and a broken neck.

Following a stint in hospital, Kelsey was left with "four titanium plates in his head" and was "hurt very badly" during the brutal attack.

Another 16 defendants have been named in court documents including one person who filmed the attack, with the 16 individuals accused of civil conspiracy.

Moore's parents are seeking over £808,000 ($1million) for medical expenses and mental anguish, while Kelsey is seeking damages of over £4million ($5million).
