Nigel Farage talks partnership with Boris Johnson
Rishi Sunak faces three challenging by-elections following the resignation of three Tory MPs in 24 hours. Boris Johnson and two of his allies, Nadine Dorries and Nigel Adams have quit the party, sparking a row among remaining Tory members.
The upcoming by-elections will be a test for Mr Sunak, but with infighting and chaos currently marring the Tory Party, some believe there’s no way back.
Former minister Ann Widdecombe believes the Tories are “heading straight for the rocks” – and must be replaced by a new centre-right party, claiming Mr Sunak was facing a wipeout in the elections next year.
And Express.co.uk readers have been agreeing with her, with commenter Gordie1234 saying: “One thing is certain there is no way back for the Tory party and BJ will hammer the last nail into the Tory coffin.”

Another user, Mr. AlwaysRight said: “Tories heading for a total wipe out come the next election!”
The prospect of Mr Johnson and former UKIP leader Nigel Farage creating a new party has appealed to some readers, with Mr Farage telling Laura Kuenssberg: “I don’t know what’s going to happen, I don’t know what Boris Johnson’s going to do, but I see a bigger gap for insurgency today than I did before.”
User odddog1 said of the potential of Mr Johnson and Mr Farage forming a new party: “Fingers crossed that this happens, I for one will not vote conservative again and I am definitely not voting for Starmer, who else is there at the moment?”
However, some believe the absence of Mr Johnson in the Conservative Party could work out better for the Prime Minister in the long run.
One Tory figure told the Financial Times: “It’s a headache — I think long-term it might be slightly better for them (Sunak’s team) to not have Boris, but it’s marginal as he’ll snipe from the sidelines.”
And Energy Secretary Grant Shapps said “the world had moved on” from Mr Johnson’s time as PM, and said of his resignation “he [Johnson] is the one who’s removed himself from the current political scene”.
So is this the end for the Tory party? Or will Rishi Sunak turn the chaos around? Have your say and join the Express.co.uk reader debate in our comments section.
