Tourist shot dead in front of fiancee who ran for miles in terror

A holidaymaker was shot dead in front of his terrified fiancee who ran several miles to raise the alarm.

Police have launched a manhunt for Sean McKinnon's killer after the 33-year-old was gunned down in a "random" carjacking attempt in New Zealand.

Australian Mr McKinnon and his Canadian fiancee Bianca Buckley, 32, were sleeping in their campervan when they were attacked in the early hours of Friday morning.

The gunman stole the vehicle with Mr McKinnon's body still inside and Ms Buckley was able to escape and run to a home where she called police for help.

The couple had parked their rented campervan in a car park close to a beach in Raglan, which is known for big-wave surfing.

After the murder, it was driven about 50 miles to Gordonton, where it was abandoned on the side of a road with Mr McKinnon dead inside.

Police on New Zealand's North island have launched a hunt for the killer.

Mr McKinnon, originally from the Warrnambool area of Australia, and Ms Buckey, a midwife who works in Auckland and is from Halifax in Canada, got engaged around Christmas in 2017, according to social media posts.

Long-time friend, Wayne Such, told The Age that Mr McKinnon was a "talented musician, genuine gentle man with a heart of gold".
