A pensioner who has the same pub lunch every day was astonished to hear complete strangers had raised a £700 bar tab for him after a video of him was shared on TikTok.
The 90-year-old war veteran named Pete lives alone and goes to the Moulsham Inn in Chelmsford nearly every day to order Hunter's chicken with a glass of red wine.
The pub's landlord Tim Mepham, 39, grew close to Pete, whose wife died 11 years ago, and decided to post a video of him on TikTok.
Pete and Tim have known each other since he started working as a manager at the pub three years ago.
The landlord decided to share the story of the widower to the popular video-sharing app describing him as "the perfect granddad that everyone loves."
The story went viral, gaining thousands of views with commenters asking how they could fund his meal.
Mepham posted Pete's table number and hundreds of orders for his food and drink came flooding in through the app, giving him a bar tab totalling over £700.

A follow-up video showed the landlord telling Pete strangers had bought him 90 glasses of wine and weeks' worth of lunches.
The landlord said: "Pete is genuinely one of the most polite gentlemen I've ever met.
"He's so thankful for what we do for him, the time he spends with us and with what's happened recently, and his sense of humour is razor-sharp.
