Met Police officer on the Stephen Port murder inquiry ‘sent picture of one of his victims in cop Whatsapp group called Hunters and Gatherers,’ insider claims
- Whistleblower claims a photo of victim Daniel Whitworth, 21, was circulated
- The chef was murdered by Stephen Port, 47, who received a whole-life order
- Shocking claim comes days after The Met was condemned in damning report
- It said Scotland Yard ranks are ‘riven with racism, misogyny and homophobia’
A Met Police officer assigned to investigating gay serial killer Stephen Port allegedly shared a photograph of one of his victims to a police WhatsApp group.
Port, 47, was sentenced to a whole-life order at the Old Bailey in 2016 after he went on a year-long killing spree, claiming the lives of four men and committing multiple rapes.
The sexual predator, obsessed with drugging and raping young men, killed Anthony Walgate, 23, Gabriel Kovari, 22, Daniel Whitworth, 21, and Jack Taylor, 25, by giving them lethal overdoses of the date-rape drug GHB from June 2014 to September 2015.
A whistleblower claims that the image showed the body of Port’s victim Daniel Whitworth, 21, lying wrapped in a sheet in a graveyard, and was circulated to a group called Hunters and Gatherers, The Sun reports.
The source said: ‘It was an appalling thing to do. There was a mixture of disbelief and disgust when phones started to ping with the picture.’

The shocking claim was made just days after a damning report described the Met Police as ‘broken’ and its ‘rotten’ ranks are riven with racism, misogyny and homophobia.
It also follows just months on from Scotland Yard agreeing to pay tens of thousands of pounds in compensation to the loved ones of three of Port’s victims after an inquest revealed a string of fatal blunders by detectives meant the killer evaded justice for longer.
There have also been claims homophobia played a part in the botched investigation.
The body of chef Mr Whitworth, his third victim, was found with an apparent suicide note that had been faked by Port and included a confession to the murder of another of his victims three weeks earlier.
It was only after the death of Port’s fourth victim that the deaths were treated as suspicious.
In this month’s damning report against the Met, the force was described as institutionally racist and corrupt as well as misogynistic and homophobic.
Baroness Casey, who spent a year examining the Yard’s culture and practices, said there was a ‘rot’ at its heart that allowed racism to go unchallenged and predatory behaviour to ‘flourish’.
Commenting on this latest claim, Met Commander Jon Savell said: ‘We have worked hard to ensure the service we provide is better while understanding we have more to do.’
MailOnline has contacted the Met Police for further comment.
