Sewage erupting from toilet leaves TV host retching in ‘worst flat I’ve seen’

A social housing campaigner was left open-mouthed by the state of a tenant’s home – where raw sewage could be seen erupting from his toilet and flooding his flat.

At only 24 years-old, Kwajo Tweneboa has become one of the UK’s most influential housing activists, exposing landlords for leaving tenants with mould, mice and overflowing toilets in outrageous videos on his Twitter page.

In one instance, a council tenant’s home was found to be crawling with cockroaches that were seen scuttling from under a hob.

Now, in a new Channel 4 documentary, UNTOLD: Help! My Home is Disgusting, Kwajo was left visibly shocked after visiting one man’s flooded home.

“I’ve been tagged in a post on Twitter about a renter who says sewage from his neighbour’s is erupting in his flat,” Kwajo explained, as he travelled to north London.

But, even after donning some Sainsbury’s bags – which he’d grabbed from a nearby bin – to protect his shoes, the housing activist couldn’t prepare himself for what he was about to witness.

“Oh god,” he exhaled, pushing open the apartment door to reveal a floor flooded with murky sewage.

Describing what had happened to his home, the tenant Jayvon explained: “I’ve had sewage running up through the toilet and even my shower.

“Everyone’s coming home from work so it’s going to keep happening.”

Footage showed identifiable sludge spilling onto the once-clean toilet lid, and a shower full of brown liquid that had contaminated washing sponges in the pod.

“This is bad,” Kwajo said, almost retching at the stench. “This is the worst I’ve seen, the smell that’s coming from it now is unbelievable.

“Your bedroom door is open, and I can see it’s gone right into your room. Your carpet, your rug, your shoes… ruined.”

In response, Jayvon described how he had called his landlord on Saturday, and said no the problem had still not been fixed by Monday afternoon.

Eventually, the sewage was finally cleared, but the tenant was told that he needed to leave the property, which was deemed unfit to live in.
