Pedestrian dead after being hit by tram in South Melbourne

A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a tram on Kings Way in South Melbourne.

Emergency services were called to the scene near York Street just after 1.30pm on Saturday.

The yet-to-be-identified pedestrian died at the scene. Victoria Police was unable to provide details on the person’s gender or age.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are being investigated.

Route 58 trams were diverted via Swanston Street, Victoria Street and Elizabeth Street while the track was cleared.
