A police officer who tweeted “f**k the Jews” and called Nazi leader Adolf Hitler “Hitler the Great” has been awarded Officer of the Year by his force.
Ismail Quran was given the 2019 award by Cleveland Police Department – as well as a distinguished service medal.
He is now being investigated by the senior officials after historic tweets were brought to light this week.
In 2014, posting under the username iSH NYC, @ish_1988, Quran wrote:“F*** that Jew”.
And he also posted a picture of Adolf Hitler with the words: “Let me salute to Hitler the Great.
“He said ‘I would have killed all the Jews in the world, but I kept some around to show why I killed them.”
The tweets were highlighted by antisemitism fighting group the Canaray Mission.
He also tweeted, in 2015, that “Jews run the world”, which is a popular conspiracy theory among antisemitic groups.
Sgt Jennifer Ciaccia, senior public information officer for the Cleveland Division of Police, told Cleveland Jewish News yesterday: “The Division of Police is aware of this matter and it has been referred to the internal affairs unit for investigation.”
World Jewry reacted to the award with horror on social media
Oscar nominated British writer and comedian Lee Kern tweeted: “This is insane and unacceptable.
Putin's grovelling apology to Israel after minister's barmy claim Hitler was Jewish
“American Jews – no one will lead the fight to have zero tolerance on this bullshit except you. “Should this racist b*****d even be wearing a police uniform let alone getting an award?”
And Liora Rez, founder and executive director of stopantisemitism.org said: ““Imagine what he would do if he had a Jewish citizen he had an interaction with?
“The fact that, you know, a bigot or racist was presented with an award (for his work) two years ago, and if you had substituted any other minority besides a Jew, this guy would have been out on his butt in 0.2 seconds.”
Cleveland Jewish News did attempt to reach out to the officer on Facebook, but had not yet had a response.
