Kyan King, the 16-year-old ‘shot dead as he ran naked from sex offender,’ left note: ‘If you’re reading this, I’m dead’

A NAKED teen boy who was shot dead as he ran away from a sex offender last weekend left a note behind saying: “If you’re reading this, I’m dead.”

Kyan King, 16, died on Saturday in Pennsylvania, according to police, who say Orlando Duarte, 45, is the murder suspect.

Authorities said that around 1pm, they were called to the scene of a shooting in Harrisburg following a report of a “naked person being shot by someone in an orange shirt.”

According to PennLive, nearby residents pointed in the direction the suspect fled and police found Duarte.

Cops said that once they found Duarte, he allegedly fled the scene – until a cop drew their weapon, and Duarte tripped and dropped a .22 caliber Smith & Wesson weapon.

Kyan was said to be found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to the chest.

According to neighbors who witnessed the incident, the teenager continued to call for help while he was shot.

Neighbor Tracy Burton called 911 after spotting Kyan running from the man.

"He was pleading for his life," she said, adding she could hear the boy yell: "Help me!"

One witness said she saw Kyan on the ground with Duarte standing by him – and claimed that as he said “help,” the 46-year-old shot him two more times.

Another witness, per PennLive, said Kyan walked by her porch before he died, and told her he was raped by someone with a gun who was chasing after him.

The woman said she tried getting a towel to help him cover up but soon saw Duarte with a gun, before seeing him shoot Kyan.

Another witness told police he saw Kyan at Duarte’s apartment earlier on Saturday – where cops later found a box of .22-caliber shell casings.

Investigators said they also found two letters in the home, one of which appeared to be written by Kyan.

The letter, which detailed how much he loved his loved ones, reportedly read: “If you’re reading this, I’m dead.”

Police said Duarte claimed he thought Kyan was 18 years old, and said that’s all the information he told them.

Before Kyan’s shooting death, Duarte was reportedly charged in two different sexual assault cases in Pennsylvania more than 10 years ago.

Police tried to interview Duarte, but he would only tell them that he thought the boy was 18, court records state.

Duarte has been charged with criminal homicide and possession of a firearm prohibited.

Before he was charged in connection with Kyan’s death this weekend, Duarte had been charged in two sexual assault cases more than a decade ago in Dauphin County.

The man was sentenced to four to eight years in prison and 10 years of probation in 2012 after he was convicted of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old.

He was listed as a registered sex offender in 2015.

Duarte was also sentenced to six to 23 months of confinement and probation for charges including simple assault and indecent assault of a person less than 16 in 2008.

He is due to appear in court on September 28 and is being held in Dauphin County Jail without bail.

During a vigil for her brother on Saturday night, Nyairrea Jones told WHTM that they all loved "Ky Ky."

Another family member said the teenager "had a very big laugh you could hear all the way upstairs on the 3rd floor."
