The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for fog which will still be in place well into Friday. The areas affected stretch from the south west and south coast of England up across the Midlands towards the north east of the country.

The weather is expected to cause trouble for people on the roads and rail and is likely to wreak havoc with the morning commute.

The Met Office said in their warning: “Areas of fog will bring some difficult travel conditions on Friday morning.

“Expect slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible.

“There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights.”

The warning will be in place until 11am on Friday morning, having been expanded to cover eastern Wales, the east Midlands and the vale of York.

However, the weather should start to brighten as we move into the weekend, with conditions remaining dry.

The forecast for Friday reads: “Low cloud and fog patches in the south slowly lifting from the east as a chilly northeasterly wind develops, bringing sunny spells but also a few showers.

“Cloudier with patchy rain or drizzle at times across Scotland.

“Tonight mild with cloud and patchy rain across north west Scotland.

“Elsewhere some clear spells but showers continuing to affect some eastern parts.

“Patchy frost developing away from eastern coastal areas.”

“Scattered showers affecting North Sea coastal areas. Feeling chilly in the northeasterly breeze.”
