Cops rushed to Church Road in Erdington around midday this afternoon.
One ambulance, two paramedic officers, an air ambulance, and a critical care car were dispatched to the scene.
Police have established a cordon and two tents have been erected on the road.
West Midlands Police said in a statement: “Police are currently on Church Road in #Erdington following a fatal shooting just after midday this afternoon (Thursday 18 April).
“A 28-year-old man was shot and his family have been informed. Enquiries into the circumstances around the incident continue.”
Erdington MP Jack Dromey told Birmingham Live: “The community of Erdington will be shocked by this tragic murder.
“My sympathy goes to the victim and the family.
“I would urge anyone who knows the perpetrator of this evil act to come forward to the police immediately.”
