A horrifying video captured the moment a 13-year-old boy was thrown out of a carousel at high-speed – causing him to crash into a steel pole.

Mark Fajardo was on the 'wave swinger' ride during Halloween celebrations in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan province in the Philippines on November 1.

Those on the ride and spectators were head cheering as it accelerated – but those quickly changed to screams of terror as Mark was sent flying from his seat and slammed into a set of steel grills with a loud crash.

Members of the public rushed to the boy's aid. He was unconscious when he was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Miraculously, Mark survived but his family said he had to undergo a pneumonectomy to remove one of his lungs due to the damage done on impact.

His mother Marivic Fajardo told local media: "Doctors told me he had to be careful since he now only has one lung left.

"I hope the operators won't make up stories. They're blaming my son, saying he removed the lock. Why would he do that when the ride was going so fast?"

Police Major General Ria Tacderan has confirmed an investigation has been launched into the incident. In a statement, he said: "Our problem now is to see if anyone is monitoring or checking the rides before they are used."

The wave swinger attraction has been suspended while investigations are ongoing and the fairground could risk losing its permit if safety violations are found.

Earlier this year, a fairground ride malfunctioned and crashed to the ground from a height has been caught on camera.

At least 16 people, including children, were injured and hospitalised after the shocking incident, which happened at the Dussehra fairground in Mohali, officially known as Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, in the Punjab region of India, according to reports.
