The cathedral city boasts 196 pubs per 100,000 people, with an average pint cost of just £4. The city also has a safety score of 83/100 for walking alone at night, the highest in the UK.

Lichfield in Staffordshire is the second best city for a big one with 435 pubs per 100,000 people – the highest number in the top 10 list. The average cost of a McDonald’s meal there is also just £5.50, bumping its score up.

Wrexham took bronze, although came in top spot in terms of lowest pint prices with an average of just £2. For every 100,000 people in Wrexham there are 40 bars or clubs.

Rounding out the top five was Salisbury in fourth and Durham in fifth. Salisbury has the third highest safety score for walking home alone at night, as well as an average pint price of just £3.50. Durham has 393 pubs per 100,000 people, and the second highest safety score for walking alone at night.

The rest of the top 10 were Chester, Derby, Bradford, Bangor and Perth. The Luck.com spokesperson said: "It is interesting, however, that the data exclusively names cathedral cities in England, Wales and Scotland, rather than larger metropolitan cities.

"This suggests partygoers can enjoy celebrations to the fullest in welcoming environments without paying higher prices that are often found in larger cities, such as London and Manchester."
