Robert Jenrick on the removal of illegal Albanian migrants
Suella Braverman has been blasted by a Tory MP on the Home Affairs Committee after its report revealed 12,000 Albanians had been granted asylum in the UK.
Marco Longhi, a member of the rightwing Common Sense Group of Conservative MPs, branded the Home Office “a disgrace” for failing to sending illegal Albanian migrants back to their home nation after they arrived in the UK on small boats.
He pointed out the committee report showed by contrast, Germany did not grant asylum to any Albanians.
Mr Longhi’s furious attack comes as Ms Braverman prepares to face him and other MPs on the committee tomorrow.
She is set to take questions on the migrant crisis, policing and, in the wake of the attack in Nottingham, the risk of a terror attack.
Mr Longhi told Express.co.uk he was fed up of being told he should not speak out on the issue.
He said: “As politicians we are told to be mindful of our language. We are told not to single out Albania. We are told not to have a go at the Home Office because it is ‘counter-productive’.
“So, what on earth can somebody like me say? If people did their job, put the people of the UK first and executed Government policy than there would be no need for somebody like me to be outspoken – and there is not a cat in hell’s chance I am going to be silenced and not represent the people who elected me.
“To be clear, the Home Office is a disgrace and now I’m hearing that they might even strike if the courts clear the Rwanda Plan as being ‘legal’.
“This is utterly disgraceful: the civil service should execute the will of the people expressed through its elected representatives and if they do strike I will be leading the charge to say that those who do should either resign or be sacked.”

Mr Longhi also questioned whether civil servants were deliberately trying to undermine confidence in Brexit.
He said: “The civil service are helping the Labour party not only because they are using high levels of immigration and illegal immigration to feed a narrative the ‘Brexit has failed’ but they give them ammunition by showing such high levels of acceptance of Albanian asylum claims at well over 50 percent.
“So why is it near zero % in other EU countries such as Germany? Why are even the EU now exploring schemes such as Rwanda?”
The report published on Monday revealed that in the first half of 2022, 51 percent of Albanian cases were accepted.
Nine other countries, including Germany, took no Albanian nationals during that period.
In 2022, more than 12,000 Albanian nationals came over in small boats and many claimed asylum.
The total from Albania went up from 800 in 2021 to 12,301 in 2022.

There are concerns after a fall in the small boats over the Channel at the start of this year, the numbers are beginning to go up again.
Last Sunday in the better weather 616 were recorded crossing up from the previous highest this year of 497 on April 22.
Many Tory MPs now believe that resolving the small boats crisis is their only chance of winning the next general election.
