Cryptocurrency is a digital currency that is decentralized and encoded with a specific cipher. The most attractive characteristic is its anonymity. Buying cryptocurrency, you can be sure that no one will know how much and in what volume you have purchased it.

Now the crypto industry lacks full-fledged regulation, which only increases the demand for it. However, it will not be possible to avoid paying taxes for a long time. Each country is beginning to introduce regulation of cryptocurrency at the national or regional level. Cryptocurrencies and world politics are closely intertwined, and their relationship has a significant impact on many aspects of the current global order.

What kind of correlation are we talking about specifically?

  • Geopolitical Aspects: Cryptocurrencies have the potential to change the balance of power and influence between states. The potential use of cryptocurrencies to circumvent sanctions, as well as to finance transnational transactions, is a concern for many governments. This leads to different approaches to regulating cryptocurrencies in different countries.
  • Economic implications: The volatility of cryptocurrencies impacts global financial markets and can pose challenges to the stability of national currencies and financial systems. In addition, the growth of cryptocurrencies may attract capital from traditional financial sectors, changing the dynamics of the global economy.
  • Cybersecurity: The growing popularity of cryptocurrencies is accompanied by an increase in cyberattacks on cryptocurrency exchanges, wallets and other infrastructure elements. This jeopardizes both the financial security of individual investors and national and international financial systems.

The development of blockchain technologies underlying cryptocurrencies could change the approach to financial transactions and digital services. States, industrial companies and financial institutions are looking to integrate these technologies into their operations to remain competitive on the global stage.

Which exchange to consider for cryptocurrency transactions?

Lee Anderson blasts disrespectful Home Office

Lee Anderson has blasted a “vile hoax” after someone claiming to be his son called LBC accusing his politician father of being a violent drunk.

During Rachel Johnson’s phone-in show yesterday evening, a distressed-sounding man called in claiming to be “Charlie Anderson” from Ashfield, Mr Anderson’s constituency, and specifying his father is the senior Tory politician.

Asked what his priorities are heading into the election, the individual said he would be voting Labour for the first time because his “dad screamed at me the other night” in addition to claiming he “grabbed me”.

The man claiming to be Mr Anderson’s son made wild accusations, including that his father has said he was considering joining “a Ukip or BNP party”, and “tried to head but me”.

Asked how old he was, the individual said 23 before quickly changing it to 24.

Ms Johnson swiftly cut the caller off, saying it sounded like a “very personal issue” and “not sure we should continue that”.

After being alerted to the claims made on the popular radio station, Mr Anderson slammed the hoax call as “vile”.

In a statement on X, the Tory deputy chairman said it was a “slur on my family” and that he would be reporting it to the police.

He said: “For clarity, I do have a son called Charlie but he is 33 and not 23 as the male says in this clip.

“The voice is a completely different accent to my son’s. The person who has made this hoax call is sick.

“I shall be reporting this to the police and so should LBC.”

Mr Anderson’s real son, Harry, also tweeted clarification that the claims were “not true” and “That person is not my brother”.

The sick claims made by the unknown male received cross-party condemnation, with a Scottish Labour official describing it as “sick”.

Laura McConnell said voters are free to criticise Mr Anderson and his policies, “but personally smearing him or his children in this way – impersonating his child on a radio phone-in – is beyond the pale”.

She called for “calm” as politicians and voters head towards the General Election, which some have warned may be the dirtiest campaign in recent history.

Another anti-Tory and anti-Brexit X user said he “can’t stand Lee Anderson, but this is unforgivable!”

They said: “You push people’s buttons on purpose Lee but there’s no excuse for this and I hope the person gets caught.”

LBC has been approached for comment.

Chris Bryant MP on Wales’ 20mph speed limit

People in Wales feel “ignored” by the Welsh Government’s decision to continue with its new 20mph legislation, Express.co.uk has been told.

It comes as First Minister Mark Drakeford announced his resignation after five years in the job, setting up the next three months for leadership hopefuls to pitch their bid. Though Mr Drakeford has implemented a number of successful policies in Wales, he will be most remembered for his outgoing decision to reduce the speed limit on most roads in the country to 20mph.

Sold as a way to save lives, many people have hit out at the law and say it is affecting their day-to-day lives in ways that the Welsh government did not consider.

Express.co.uk spoke to several people who said they had encountered problems with the new rule and politicians in the Senedd, including allies of Welsh Labour, who raised concerns about its efficacy.

Will Martin, a 22-year-old warehouse assistant in Wrexham, said he has faced troubles with his work and safety because of the new limit.

It has, he noted, meant that deliveries can often take longer to arrive than before, which has led to shorter working days.

“A lot more people have started to tailgate as well,” he said. “And I think drivers are taking more risks, pulling out where there isn’t necessarily the space, and I believe pedestrians have also started to take more risks by stepping into the road on the assumption that cars are now going 20mph.”

The legislation also means that some stretches of roads can change speed limits multiple times in just a few miles, and covers roads entirely unsuitable for 20mph.

Mr Martin explained: “There’s a road near me which straddles the border and it’s very steep. It’s gone down to 20mph and sometimes, when people head onto that road and try to go down into 20mph, their car can’t handle it.

“Once they go into first gear they’re slowing even below 20mph, the car is really struggling, you’re wasting all that fuel and the change of speed is very sudden.

“The Welsh Government isn’t listening to things like this, it’s stupid, and they’re continuing to push it and ignore us.”

Michael Enea, a 50-year-old from Newport who tackles issues across Wales in his The Pointy Finger blog, set out on a journey in the early days of the legislation coming into force.

Driving from Caerleon to Cwmbran is usually an easy journey that takes just 15 minutes, but when Mr Enea set out it took him more than 20 minutes and saw him encounter his first instance of “road rage” from other drivers.

“There are three separate 20mph zones along that journey now,” he said, “and you now have to shift between 30mph and 20mph then up to 40mph and back to 20mph, up again to 40mph then back down to 20mph in the space of about five miles.

“It’s just ridiculous. You can see people on the road getting extremely frustrated, and I actually experienced my first bout of road rage from another driver who tailgated me.”

Mr Enea works for a brewery and said the deliveries of beer trays to pubs, clubs, social clubs and restaurants across the region has been significantly affected.

He explained: “In the morning, the lorry might do 10 drops, but of course, if you’ve got to crawl along at 20mph on certain lengthy roads, the time you have to get to all of those places is cut down, so you might only be able to deliver to nine pubs. There will be economic fallout from that.”

It hasn’t only affected delivery services, as already overstretched public buses have said they are considering cutting some routes because they can no longer keep up with timetabling.

Arriva Buses Wales said the new limit had led to an “impact on punctuality”, and was as a result undertaking a “large-scale review of the network” and was “discussing the implications”.

Similarly, Wales’ fire service chief, Stuart Millington, has said that some response times will be affected by the new limit, as those using their own cars to get to stations during a call-out would be impacted.

“In terms of the 20mph speed limit, that’s a complex subject in its own right with lots of opinion and debate that we are already aware of,” he said.

“We did provide a consultation response in relation to the 20mph response, and it was debated, and we provide information on what that would mean for reduced response times for on-call firefighters.”

The issue of air pollution has also arisen, with one study carried out by science chiefs at Newport County Council suggesting that the legislation could contribute to an increase in air pollution.

Andrew RT Davies, leader of the Welsh Conservatives, told Express.co.uk that his party believes it is a “good thing” to have 20mph roads outside sensitive areas like schools and hospitals, “but that to bring it in as a blanket measure when the indicators clearly show there is a big economic hit is wrong”.

“It’s a lose-lose situation,” he said. “The Welsh government should have their eye on bigger priorities such as getting waiting times down in the NHS, improving educational standards, and improving the overall performance of the economy.

“We have a clear commitment that if we were to form a government in Wales at the next Senedd election in 2026, we will rescind the legislation that has the blanket policy at its heart.”

Even those who work with Welsh Labour have questioned the blanket approach taken.

Mr ap Iorwerth, the new leader of Plaid Cymru, said the government hadn’t listened to his party’s concerns, telling Express.co.uk: “The legislation isn’t bad, and there are exemptions, hence why many 30mph roads haven’t changed.”

However, he added: “But in the implementation and the failure to make sure there’s consistency in how things have been around Wales, so you do have examples where the speed limit is totally unreasonable now, where it becomes a problem.

“Weeks ago, we put forward a motion to the Senedd calling for a review of where the 20mph isn’t reasonable in its practice — but we still haven’t seen the government respond to that call.”

While the policy doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, growing anger could see the Senedd debate it yet.

Almost half a million people, some 16 percent of Wales’ population, have signed a record-breaking petition calling for the Senedd to “rescind and remove the disastrous 20mph law”.

A counter-petition in support of the legislation has garnered just 5,000 signatures.

An SNP member of parliament has declared that an independent Scotland would have “limitless immigration”. Kirsty Blackman was on BBC Radio 5 Live, reacting to the Government’s Rwanda bill which was voted through the House of Commons on Tuesday.

The Safety of Rwanda won 313 votes to 269, with 63 MPs abstaining including former Home Secretary Suella Braverman and former Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick. The emergency law was created to go around the Supreme Court, which ruled that sending migrants to Rwanda is unlawful as it is not safe and migrants would be at risk of being sent back to their home countries, where they could face mistreatment.

On BBC Radio 5 Live, the MP for Aberdeen North said: “The whole Rwanda scheme is built on a premise that immigration is bad, right? The whole idea.”

She added: “It only works if you start from the premise that immigration is a bad thing, that we shouldn’t have it, that we need to reduce it and that we need to stop people coming here.”

Host Nicky Campbell interrupted her, stating: “1.2 million I think it was, net immigration over the last couple of years?”

Ms Blackman replied: “Which includes students by the way.”

Mr Campbell argued: “Many of whom don’t go back and bring their families.”

Ms Blackman responded: “Many do go back. And when they do, when they become successful and get jobs in other countries, they’re much more likely to do things like invest in the UK.

“The proof is there that if you spend some time in your formative years in a country, you’re more likely to keep up links with that country and invest in that country and use companies and that.”

A shocked Mr Campbell asked: “Would an independent Scotland have a cap on immigration?” Ms Blackman simply said: “No.”

The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said in a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter): “The British people should decide who gets to come to this country – not criminal gangs or foreign courts.

“That’s what this Bill delivers. We will now work to make it law so that we can get flights going to Rwanda and stop the boats.”

David Cameron takes swipe at Boris Johnson

David Cameron is set for an afternoon of potentially embarrassing headlines, as he faces a double whammy of a grilling in the Lords and the first publication of his ministerial register of interests.

Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton faces his first lengthy probe in front of the Lords’ European Affairs Committee at 3pm, where he will face 13 peers.

The appearance comes after Lord Cameron said Britain needs closer ties with the EU, sparking fears among the Tory right he is trying to “reignite” a debate about Brexit.

Any reference by Lord Cameron about the EU at his committee hearing will be scrutinised closely, given the nature of his departure from Downing Street almost immediately after losing the Brexit referendum in 2016.

Since returning to Government, the new Foreign Secretary has insisted he is fully committed to Brexit, despite warning during the referendum it could lead to a global recession and/or World War 3.

Speaking to BBC News after his unexpected return to frontline politics, Lord Cameron said the UK must act as “a friend, a neighbour and the best possible partner” to Europe.

He said: “There’s no doubt that Britain is the leading European power in helping Ukraine. I heard that over and over again from the president downwards. But we’re doing that in partnership with our European colleagues. So I think we can make ‘friend, neighbour and partner’ work, and I’m determined to do so.”

Sir John Redwood demanded Lord Cameron now make clear he believes in Brexit, tweeting he should “measure that he supports the 2019 manifesto to get Brexit done”.

He said: “He needs to set out how proud he is of the UK now we are free of EU law and taxes.”

Despite Lord Cameron’s assurances he’s now a believer in Brexit, last night Rishi Sunak joked at a drinks reception of Tory MPs that he’s planning on giving his foreign secretary “a government pamphlet on the benefits of Brexit” for Christmas.

One Lords European Affairs Committee told Politico this morning that the hearings will be “quite a major moment”.

They said Peers will ask Lord Cameron broad questions about UK-EU relations, rather than getting “bogged down in the technicalities”.

The committee will also likely cover issues of Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Gaza, EU enlargement and potential further cooperation between the UK and the EU on issues like defence and energy.

Onlookers will also be hoping for some scrutiny of Lord Cameron’s relationship with China since leaving Downing Street in 2016, which has raised eyebrows as more details emerge around his involvement with the country and his lobbying activities.

Lord Cameron may also face further embarrassment this afternoon, as his first formal Ministerial register of interests is set to be published.

Sir Laurie Magnus, the PM’s independent advisor on Ministers’ interests, reintroduced the bi-annual publication of ministerial interests this year, with his last update coming in July.

Lord Cameron is yet to have any interests published and may detail his external incomes, as well as areas of his business activities since leaving No. 10.

The House of Representatives voted to formalize the House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden.

The House Rules Committee resolution was passed Wednesday with 221 to 212 votes, along party lines, in the Republican-led lower house.

The investigation was unilaterally launched by the then House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in September into the Biden family’s alleged business dealings abroad.

It failed to unearth anything wrong on the part of Biden, and enough support of the full GOP conference for a full chamber vote.

With a full House vote, the probe takes a critical turn while right-wing pressure grows.

According to the U.S. Constitution, if the House votes to impeach a president, he will be subject to a trial in the Senate.

The president’s son, Hunter Biden, refused to appear for the Republican investigator’s subpoena for closed-door testimony Wednesday.

Since early 2019, Hunter and his father have been the subjects of allegations of corrupt activities concerning Ukraine. The accusations concern Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine and Joe Biden’s anti-corruption efforts there.

Joe Biden termed the House vote to formalize the impeachment inquiry as “baseless political stunt.”

The President alleged that instead of doing anything to help make Americans’ lives better, the Republicans are focused on attacking him with lies. “Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts,” he said in a statement.

“There is a lot of work to be done. But after wasting weeks trying to find a new Speaker of the House and having to expel their own members, Republicans in Congress are leaving for a month without doing anything to address these pressing challenges.”

Biden accused the Republicans in Congress of driving the nation towards self-inflicted economic crises like a government shutdown in just a few weeks “because they won’t act now to fund the government and critical priorities to make life better for the American people.”

Badenoch hails CPTPP trade deal

Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch has said the Government’s “export success stories” are allowing Brexit Britain’s trade to boom.

Official figures have revealed an eight per cent hike in overseas trading with sales hitting £868 billion in a year.

Ms Badenoch said the £62 billion total year-on-year increase in current prices has proved the Brexit naysayers are wrong.

Writing for the Daily Express, she said: “Let’s ditch the doom and gloom – British businesses are thriving and that’s something to celebrate.”

Ms Badenoch added: “Today’s figures show that the Government’s work signing new trade deals, knocking down trade barriers and promoting British businesses across the globe is working, with our services industries in particular reaching record export levels never seen before.

“From insurance to advertising, travel services to telecoms, these export success stories are helping to grow the economy, create jobs and boost prosperity up and down Britain.”

READ MORE: Kemi Badenoch blasts ‘doom-laden nonsense’ about Brexit Britain

UK services exports are at record levels and up more than six per cent, adjusted for inflation, in the year to October 2022, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The records released by the ONS show the yearly increase at £62 billion though once it is adjusted for inflation and excluding precious metals if falls to £14 billion.

Tory MPs said the figures are the latest boost to Brexit Britain despite dire warnings from critics about the impact of exiting the EU.

Former international trade secretary Dr Liam Fox said: “Great news for British businesses and jobs, terrible news for those who predicted our trade would collapse after Brexit.”

Ex-business secretary Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg added: “Brexit encourages us to look beyond the narrow European sphere and this growth in exports will get a further boost from our new free trade deals.”

Conservative MP Marco Longhi, who is the trade envoy to Brazil, said: “Increasing our exports means more jobs and more secure jobs.

“An increase of £62 billion is huge and it underlines the importance of Brexit which is now delivering for the country.

“In Brazil alone, where I am trade envoy, we have increased export by about a third – this would not have been possible if still shackled to the EU.

“Global Britain is working, and our export data proves it resoundingly.”

It comes as Britain has signed trade agreements with more than 70 countries since leaving the EU.

Earlier this year, the UK joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in the biggest post-Brexit deal to date.

Britain became the first new member of the Indo-Pacific trade bloc since it was formed and the only European nation to be part of the club, which gives access to some of the fastest-growing markets in the world.

Meanwhile, the first agreements negotiated from scratch with Australia and New Zealand came into force in May marking a major milestone.

And the UK last month signed a trade deal with Florida, bringing the total number with US states to seven.

There are also more deals on the horizon with a bumper pact with India expected imminently.

The UK fired the starting gun on talks for a new trade agreement with South Korea in November, while there will be negotiations with Turkey on an updated tie-up.

A landmark report by the Institute for Economic Affairs think tank last month found both goods and services exports rose after Brexit.

In other Brexit wins, Japanese car giant Nissan in November announced it is investing £2 billion in its Sunderland plan.

It came months after Jaguar Land Rover-owner Tata confirmed plans in July to invest £4 billion in a new UK gigafactory in Somerset.

Meanwhile, Britain has leapfrogged France to become the world’s eighth-biggest manufacturer.

And the UK unveiled £29.5 billion of foreign investment at the Global Investment Summit at Hampton Court Palace in November.

Marco Forgione, director general of the Institute of Export and International Trade, said it is “clear there is a real appetite in overseas markets for UK goods, products and services”.

He said: “It is encouraging to see that UK exports have witnessed strong year-on-year growth.

“All the evidence shows that firms who trade internationally grow faster, hire more people and are more resilient – which is good news for them and for the wider economy.

“The strong growth in UK services exports is especially important as they make up per cent of our economy and account for half of our global exports. The UK ranks second globally for services exports, and first in Europe.

“Our recent report shows that there are tremendous opportunities to increase services exports across all the UK’s regions even further next year.

“It has certainly been a year of trade highlights, with milestones such as CPTPP and deals with the likes of Australia and New Zealand opening up exciting new opportunities.

“Looking ahead to 2024, to really turbo boost the UK economy we need more Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) reaping the incredible benefits of international trade, by providing them with the support and tools to start their export journeys.”

Mark Drakeford announces he's stepping down as Welsh Labour leader

Mark Drakeford has announced he is standing down as Welsh First Minister.

The Labour politician, who has been Wales’ leader since December 2018, said he hoped his replacement could be in place before Easter next year.

At a news conference in Cardiff, he said: “When I stood for election as leader of Welsh Labour, I said I would stand down during the current Senedd term. That time has now come.”

Mr Drakeford’s poll ratings have taken a hit in recent months and he has come under criticism for policies including Wales’s new 20mph speed limit.

A YouGov poll of 1,004 Welsh voters for ITV Cymru Wales and Cardiff University earlier this month found his popularity is at an 18-month low, with 56 percent believing he is doing a bad job of being First Minister.

Welsh Tory leader Andrew RT Davies said: “I wish Mark well as he stands down from the helm.

“While we may have different visions for Wales, I know I’m joined by colleagues in holding a huge amount of respect for his dedication to the job of First Minister.

“It’s important, however, with this announcement that there is no distraction from the really important job of delivering for the people of Wales.

“Labour politicians jockeying for the role of First Minister must not detract from this.”

Mr Drakeford was first elected to the Senedd in 2011 as the Member for Cardiff West.

He served in various ministerial roles from 2013 under the leadership of Carwyn Jones, before succeeding him as First Minister and Welsh Labour leader in 2018.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer previously said Mr Drakeford’s administration was the “blueprint for what Labour could do in government across the UK”.

He was speaking at the Welsh Labour conference in 2022.

But he declined to repeat the claim ahead of this year’s Labour Party conference in Liverpool.

Nigel Farage‘s threat of war against ITV bosses may prompt the makers of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here to ban politicians from the show.

The former MEP and Ukip leader lashed out on Monday, accusing the channel of “unpleasantries” and ITV boss Kevin Lygo of making derogatory comments about him.

Mr Farage came third on the ITV1 reality show with radio presenter Sam Thompson emerging as the winner in Sunday’s final. He went on to threaten war against the broadcaster.

Amid the furore over Mr Lygo’s alleged remarks, crew members have cast doubt as to whether the show will feature politicians in the future.

A source said I’m A Celeb has always cast “divisive” characters but show bosses may now think twice.

They told The Sun: “Nigel’s MO is all about making it seem like the establishment is against him but no one expected it to become that hand that fed him.

“This is the problem with having politicians on. They are usually in it to further their political standing.

“Never say never, but it sounds like it has cast doubt high-up on having another politician on.”

Former health secretary Matt Hancock, Edwina Currie, former Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale and ex-culture secretary Nadine Dorries have all entered the jungle in past productions.

The crew member’s comments echo those of show co-host Declan Donnelly who told Jungle Club that I’m a Celebrity needed a year without politicians. To which Ant McPartlin replied: “Agreed! Agreed!”

Dec said in response: “Let’s put that motion through shall we?”

An ITV spokesman said: “I’m A Celebrity has always featured a diverse cast from all areas of public life and has a history of featuring political figures throughout its 23 series on air.

“There are no plans for this to change when the series returns to screens next year.”

Mr Farage, 59, said on Monday that he was prepared to ignore Mr Lygo’s allegedly “one-handed gestures” and “the rude pathetic attempts” from his staff to “stitch” him “up”.

He said: “If you really want to go to war with me, I don’t think it would do ITV share prices a lot of good.”

An average of 8.3 million people watched the show every night in the first two weeks of the series, ratings figures show.

It is a drop of more than two million on the same period last year when the footballer Jill Scott won.

The 2022 series attracted a higher audience than the previous year thanks to the intense media interest in Mr Hancock, who finished third.

Speaking to hosts Ant and Dec after his exit from the show, Mr Farage explained his decision to take part in the show this year, after having been asked in previous years.

He said: “I had time to do it and I’m 60 next birthday and going to reach an age where you can’t do it.

“This is very physical, bringing buckets of water, doing the challenges, so now was the right time to do it and I’m very pleased I did.

“I did my best to show no fear at all in the challenges.”

The U.S. Department of Commerce has announced a funding of $35 million in federal incentives under the CHIPS and Science Act to support the modernization of BAE Systems’ Microelectronics Center, and to quadruple its production capacity for chips that are essential to the Unite States’ national security, including for use in F-35 fighter jets.

The Department of Commerce and BAE Systems Electronic Systems, a business unit of BAE Systems, Inc., have signed a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms (PMT). This is the first funding announcement as part of the CHIPS and Science Act, which was designed to strengthen American manufacturing, supply chains, and national security. Modernizing BAE Systems’ microelectronics center helps support this vision and the continued development and manufacturing of cutting-edge technology to serve customers’ missions.

BAE Systems’ MEC in in Nashua, New Hampshire, is an 110,000-square-foot, Department of Defense (DoD)-accredited, semiconductor chip fabrication and foundry facility that produces technology for DoD applications. The MEC develops advanced semiconductor technologies beyond those available commercially to meet demanding military requirements. It is one of the only domestic defense-centric six-inch Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) wafer foundries.

“We have been clear since day one that the CHIPS for America Program is about advancing our national security and strengthening domestic supply chains, all while creating good jobs supporting long-term U.S. economic growth. As national security becomes as much about the chips inside of our weapons systems as the weapons systems themselves, this first CHIPS announcement shows how central semiconductors are to our national defense,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

“Microelectronics are at the heart of the technology and products we make for our defense and aerospace customers—from next-generation aircraft and satellites to military-grade GPS and secure communications,” said Tom Arseneault, president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. “This funding will help modernize our Microelectronics Center and fulfill the promise of the CHIPS and Science Act by increasing our capacity to serve national defense programs, growing our technical workforce, and helping to strengthen the nation’s onshore supply chain.

Local and state commitments contributed to the funding application. As a result, both the state of New Hampshire and the City of Nashua are offering workforce incentives through Nashua Community College (NCC).

“This critical funding from the CHIPS and Science Act—which I was proud to help pass—will help BAE Systems’ Microelectronics Center in Nashua modernize their facility and ensure our military continues to have access to American-made semiconductor technology,” said U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, chair of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the Department of Commerce. “These modernization efforts will strengthen New Hampshire’s integral role in the nation’s defense manufacturing industry for years to come.”

The British multinational arms, security and aerospace company said the $35 million in funding will be coupled with the ongoing investment in modernization and R&D. The funding will help purchase new, more efficient manufacturing tools to mitigate supply chain risk, increase production capacity, and reduce time-to-build product. The increased efficiency will enable a scale-up in production to meet increasing demand for DoD technology and provide critical microelectronics to non-defense industries including satellite communications, and test and measurement equipment markets.

Rishi Sunak is today fighting to save his premiership as he grapples to stave off a potential Tory rebellion from warring MPs over his emergency legislation to get his flagship illegal immigration policy working.

The Government’s Rwanda Safety Bill is designed to get flights off the ground so asylum seekers can be processed in the landlocked African nation as a form of deterrent to halt small boats crossing over the English Channel.

But the Bill has met with vociferous opposition from the Right of the Tory Party, with lawyers convened on behalf of the influential European Research Group (ERG) branding the plan both “partial and incomplete” in a scathing verdict on Monday.

Now the PM is expected to host a meeting with 20 or so Tory rebels from the New Conservative faction in a last-ditch push to win their support ahead of a Commons vote on the Bill at its second reading stage today.

FOLLOW BELOW FOR LIVE UPDATES…

Timeline for the day

Rishi Sunak is expected to hold a breakfast meeting with Tory MPs from roughly 7.30am.

He will then chair Cabinet this morning.

The debate for the Rwanda Safety Bill is expected to begin in the House of Commons at about 12.30pm with voting expected early evening.

David Cameron makes desperate plea to Tory MPs as Rishi Sunak faces Rwanda rebellion

David Cameron has urged warring Tories to unite behind Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as his premiership was pushed to the brink.

Lord Cameron told the Daily Express: “If we want to stop the boats, to stop this illegal migration, you simply have to have a strong deterrence policy, and this legislation will achieve that.

“I saw it when I was in office when there were huge numbers of people going from Turkey to Greece. And everyone thought that would never be stopped.

“But actually, once there was an agreement that anyone who arrived on a dinghy from Turkey to Greece went back to Turkey, and the Turks took them back, the number almost collapsed overnight.

“The Government has managed to achieve a new treaty with Rwanda very quickly, which many people thought we wouldn’t. Now we have legislation to put this policy beyond doubt. With the MPs’ backing, this is a plan that will stop the boats.”

The foreign secretary Lord David Cameron has threatened to withdraw co-operation with Scottish ministers after the SNP leader met with the Turkish president.

The first minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf met with Recep Tayyip Erdogan at COP28 without a UK official present.

David Cameron has called this a breach of protocol amid ongoing tensions between Scotland and the UK government over meetings with foreign officials.

Foreign affairs are under the jurisdiction of the UK government but devolved nations are allowed to engage internationally on things they have responsibility over.

A UK government source told the BBC that Lord Cameron wants to take a “harder line” approach than his predecessor James Cleverly.

In a letter to the SNP’s External Affairs Secretary Angus Robertson, Lord Cameron said the Scottish government had assured the Foreign Office (FCDO) that it would give “sufficient advance notice” of the meeting to allow a government official to attend.

According to Lord Cameron this “was not done”. A spokesperson for Mr Yousaf said a UK official was invited to the meeting.

“The absence of an FCDO official at this meeting contravenes the protocols in our guidance on FCDO support to devolved government ministers’ overseas visits,” the letter reads.

“Any further breaches of the protocol of ministerial meetings have a FCDO official present will result in no further FCDO facilitation of meetings or logistical support.

“We will also need to consider the presence of Scottish government offices in UK government posts.”

A similar threat was made by James Cleverly while he was foreign secretary after Humza Yousaf had a meeting with the Icelandic prime minister last August without government officials.

A UK government source said the Foreign Office was not told of the meeting with the Turkish president “until it was too late” and represents an “escalation” with Scotland “undermining UK foreign policy”.

A UK government spokesperson added: “Foreign affairs is reserved under the Scotland Act and in such turbulent times, the need for the UK to speak on the world stage with one consistent voice is more important than ever.”

A spokesperson for the SNP leader said a UK official was aware of the meeting and that the same arrangements were in place for his engagements with other world leaders.

They added: “The nature of events such as COP is that timings can change at the last minute, and the FCDO representative was elsewhere at the time it was convenient for the Turkish president to meet.

“Any threat by the UK government to curtail the Scottish Government’s international engagement is misguided and would work against Scotland’s interests.”

A Scottish government source said Lord Cameron’s letter was a “gross overreaction”, adding: “You can hardly say to a president, ‘Can you wait a second while we find our chaperone?'”

They said that the FCDO representative was “very late” for a couple of meetings at the summit, but that was “the nature of fast-moving things like COP”.
