Star Paws: Vegetarian food for dogs is all the rage

Research reveals that, despite being a nation of animal lovers, almost a third of us could be putting pets at risk from carbon monoxide poisoning.

We spend almost £2,000 a year to keep our pets happy and healthy, yet many of us don’t have a life-saving CO alarm.

And those of us who do, fail to regularly test it.

CO Be Alarmed! has launched a #PawsUp campaign to make pet owners aware of dangers.

The firm’s spokeswoman Abbie Sampson said: “Carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer because you can’t see it, smell it or taste it. Everyone is at risk, and pets are most vulnerable as they are often left in confined spaces for extended periods of time.”

Around 30 people die each year from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon monoxide can be emitted by everyday household objects, such as faulty boilers, so a CO alarm is essential.

To stay protected in your home, follow the simple CO Be Alarmed! ABC checklist – Do you have an alarm? Have you tested it? Have you had an up-to-date gas check?
