A man has been seriously injured after being shot inside a Walsall barber’s shop, West Midlands Police said.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was in the Wolverhampton Road hairdressers – called Katz Kuts – in the Birchills area of the town just after 5pm on Sunday when men entered and assaulted him.

Police said it is understood one of the men left and returned with what is believed to have been a shotgun.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was in the Wolverhampton Road hairdressers – called Katz Kuts

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his stomach and is in a critical condition in hospital.

The men ran off and a police investigation is underway to identify and catch the offenders.

Jennifer Orchard, who was in the area, said: ‘Possible shooting on Raleigh Street off Wolverhampton Road Walsall. We heard a loud bang and then police cars arrived sectioning off the road.’

Katz Kuts is situated directly across from a block of residential homes, attached to terraced housing just 150 yards from a college.

In June 2012 a man and woman were found dead just a five minute walk away from the hairdressers, in what police called an ‘isolated incident.’

The pair, Derrick Vassell, 43, and mother-of-three Clare Sly, 39, were found in the same property in Laneside Gardens with gun shot wounds to the chest.

A cyclist was shot in the leg and survived in nearby Burrowes Street in 2017.
