A 12-year-old Yonkers boy succumbed to injuries sustained when he shot himself in the head with an illegal gun in what police believe was a tragic accident, authorities said.
Nyran Plummer died early Wednesday — four days after he found the loaded .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol in the bedroom of his family’s home on Nepperhan Avenue, according to the Yonkers Police Department.
The tween was home alone with a younger neighbor shortly before midnight Saturday when he wandered into the bedroom, picked up the illegal gun and fired off two rounds — one bullet struck a window and the other hit the boy in the right temple.
Police called the incident “a self-inflicted, potential accidental injury.”
Family members discovered the boy, a Yonkers Public Schools student, within 30 minutes of the shooting and called 911. Medics rushed him to an area hospital, but he ultimately could not be saved.
No arrests have been made, but authorities are still investigating the incident.
