A free program providing mentoring, certification and training in Ethereum launched earlier in the week by an online blockchain education provider for one thousand lucky students.

B9lab was founded in 2014 and according to the website, work on providing quality blockchain education for everyone.

The goal is to clear up misconceptions about the technology. The launch of its Community Blockstars Programme at GoerliCon Berlin, in association with the Department of Decentralisation and ETHBerlin. The goal of the program is to bring in a diverse range of people from different cultural, professional and geographic backgrounds.

The co-founder at B9lab, Elias Haase spoke about the program in a recent interview. Haase said that it was important for them to have as many different voices “influencing the shape of the technology” as this is where it’s going to be the most successful.

“We want input from people with diverse backgrounds, from different industries, and with different life experiences, he added. With that in mind, we didn’t want cost to be a barrier for training. That’s why we’re offering the course for free for participants.”

Further explaining, Haase says that it meant other members of the community to get involved too, whether it’s through donating technology, money, mentoring and so on. “Ethereum is a strong, established protocol with an excellent community and ecosystem, and we want to share it with as many people as possible,”

There will be two courses running this year in both March and October and 500 students will be taking the course both times. 250 seats will be funded by community partners, with the remaining seats being funded by B9lab.

The timeline for the March intake of students of the program are:

  • “Selection process (online test) – 31 January – 28 February;
  • Developer course – 1 March – 3 May;
  • Final project submission – 4 May – 1 June;
  • Official certification – by 29 June.”

Back in 2015, the Ethereum develop course was the first one which B9lab created. According to Haase, it’s their most successful program with the biggest group of alumni due to the longevity of it all.

According to Forbes, when you consider that there are over 14,000 students from 160 countries learning about blockchain with B9labs, the provider is witnessing more representation from the Western countries.
